Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Open-plan offices are a failure

Harvard study says open-plan offices are a failure. They actually decrease rather than increase employee collaboration. Other studies say the same thing. Yet AT&T continues to spend money creating them. Always behind the curve. And if they want to save money, WFH cost them nothing.

@2cjd- you are absolutely correct. Anyone who reports s-xual harassment at At&T gets fired, or made so miserable they run as far away as they can go. I learned this the hard way.

As others.noted , the whole open office trend that started mostly due to startups not having money in expensive metros for real office space , basically was re-packaged as the "in" thing , and sold to corporate America as a better and cheaper cubicle mouse trap, it isn't .

At the end of the day companies don't care where the employees are as long as they're on premises and producing something.

I hate those. The last time I worked in one, I was stalked by my team lead. The guy was a real creeper. Always watching me go to the bathroom, watching me when I came back, asking what I was doing if I pulled a notepad out of my backpack, always pulling me in meetings to complain about me. I finally had to go document everything he did on Indeed.com and tell everyone in the office what a creeper he was to make it stop. Never filed a s-xual harassment claim as HR would have fired me for poor performance like they do in all cases of s-xual harassment.

Worse thing they did. Everyone gets to heAr you chewing your food, on the phone with your kids, doing things at your desk that should be done in the rest room.

Did you actually think that Collaboration Zones, Open Offices, and Limiting WFH was about Collaboration or Productivity? It wasn't....
