Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Project Collaborate Update

We just had a call with our VP in ATO, they said this is the new policy ATO-wide:

  • All telecommuting besides full time is now a supervisor decision
  • All forced relocations are off, you can stay where you are or move back at your expense if you already moved
  • The zones have been re-named as tiers depending on how many employees are there
  • Moving between tier-1 and tier-2 locations is a supervisor decision (there are 5 tiers)
  • Moving to a tier 3, 4 or 5 location requires VP approval

FOW= Flex Office Worker
FTO = Full time office
FTW= Full time teleworker.

FOW classification meant employee could telecommute 2-3 times a week but also had an office they were supposed to regularly report to as well. Reality is probably 80+ % of these folks work remotely full time, may show up in an office once in a great while. A poster below incorrectly claimed there are no FOW left in ATO; this is completely erroneous.

FTW is not as common but there are still some folks under this indicator.

I for one love driving back and forth to a collaboration zone office with 20 positions and I'm alone. I guess the company wants more collaboration-mas—ation because I'm the only one ever here. Working out great Leadership keep smoking the meth.

@21jo - not me, people like the OP apparently believe that : “...new policy ATO-wide”, and some other commenters - “almost all L1 and L2 are FTO... and rest converted soon”. Simply not true.

"I’m a L2 under Summers - FOW. Have been for years and no change now"

Yup, people like @2mxw assume whatever is going on in their little section of ATO is across the board, and that is incorrect.

"11GtUuLQ-1izu - yeah? What level are they? Almost all L1 and L2 are all FTO and to those lil leftovers will be converted soon."

Wrong again. Almost every single one of the hundreds I looked at are in L1, L2 job titles.

Regarding the comment below. Fea gave us the collab list months ago-each with its tier ranking and number of ATO employees at each. Not sure why Walters is making it sound like something new

“ They are renaming locations according to "tiers"...Tiers largely based on the amount of ATO management that report to each location”

11GtUuLQ-1izu - yeah? What level are they? Almost all L1 and L2 are all FTO and to those lil leftovers will be converted soon. But keep believing though. I should have said no L1 or L2 will be FOW anymore. It was clear when Marachel converted the majority of those levels.

@1gmt

"Nobody is an FOW anymore in ATO"

Completely incorrect. If you have access to Webphone you can easily prepare yourself a report (well, maybe YOU can't but most people can...) and filter on the occupancy indicator "FOW". Just searching on a small subsection of the thousands of personnel in ATO, there are hundreds of people still classified "FOW". In all of ATO I am sure there are many, many more.

@1fxb

Argumentative much? Cripes, I was agreeing with you with regard to working from home.

You do understand that the revision in the policy IS saving many from having to either quit, relocate, or undertake a completely unreasonable daily commute though, don’t you? Maybe you don’t.

Anyway, that’s all I was trying to say.

@11GtUuLQ-1joh - thats from RW email. Go argue with him tell him its incorrect. Nobody can wfh unless u have some special accommodations. They're not going to open that flexibility. THEY WANT PEOPLE TO QUIT and these "TIERS" are just same conclusion, different wording.

T is not stupid and they know to keep people happy and retain people is to give them flexibility so they'll never give you that... SURE NO MORE LAY OFFs, but you will QUIT, OR DIE DRIVING. Up to u now.

“AT&T flex worker policy is not changing and applies to all employees“.

This is not incorrect. That said, still there are many, many folks that were already FTO that were facing a decision as to whether they were going to leave the company, or have to start reporting to a new FTO location many many miles from their home, necessitating either a move or a completely unreasonable daily commute. I am thankful for the leadership shuffle that precipitated a more common sense approach.

Theres still no wfh allowed,

  • att flex worker policy is not changing and applies to all employees.

I laughed and spilled my drink. Nobody is an FOW anymore in ATO. Marachel made sure of that and changed everyone to FTO. Unless they're changing us back to FOW, then possibly.

So in other words they found a way to populate the most successive tiers with a younger work force. Mission accomplished.

The company lost a lot of top talent this year with the Colab Zone/telecommuting reduction push. I know a number of folks that left the company for other jobs because of this leadership circus at T.

Not fake news folks. This was rolled out on Walters call yesterday. They are reviewing the entire "Collaboration" thing. They are renaming locations according to "tiers"...Tiers largely based on the amount of ATO management that report to each location. Tier 5 being the lowest (less than 5). Work location to be based on closest "Tier" with VP exceptions possible for those that wish to report to a lower tier location. Giving some decision making back to AM level. Clearly backpedaling on initial ridiculous "Collaboration" plan that had people bypassing suitable work locations to report to one that had no one in their workgroup. Tier status for each location still being evaluated per feedback we were given.

To collaborate or not collaborate, that is the question. Management is in a state of incompetence, what else is new.

Sounds like some people are upset about this? As someone that was looking at a 100 mile commute or leaving the company, I am glad they’ve realized how ludicrous this was for so many. Especially for those already full time office, being sent to another state where none of their team is in the name of “collaboration”.

This collaboration zone BS was planned for long time. It was very obvious they would cancel this c–p after they laid off thousands. This was a plan.

What the hell? I was laid off in March because I wasn't near an ATO collaboration zone. Now being in a zone isn't a requirement? Thinking I should sue.
