Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Accenture meet and greet

I was at one of the Accenture presentations for the TechDev employees being transitioned. Looking around the room, everyone looked 45+. It looks like AT&T is using this apparent loophole as a way to get rid of older employees.
Does anyone have any experience with Accenture as a 40+ yo employee? Based on reputation I am thinking it will be uncomfortable at best but possibly outright discriminatory.

Accenture does this all the time to their own in NA as NA has zero protections in reality so they always start with the Americans, then the older Americans in their 50's, then 40's, a few younger ones for balance. It has already kick started in Sept and has started to increase pace.

Hey Goofy. The average age of an AT&T employee is 44. I'm sure the TechDev employees skew much older than that, since the young employees probably tend to be in jobs with high turnover. You're not being discriminated against, they are just getting rid of everyone they can.

What about the Class Action Suit for short changing employees on the monthly annuity as T is not using ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) estimations but their own actuarial estimates and short changing those forced into retire early? Anyone have the status on this?

Myself and few of my colleague who are in mid 30s are also impacted and sent to Accenture. Att covered it well to avoid any age discrimination lawsuits.

No, 45-50 isn’t old but they’re purpose is to get rid of the employees who are getting close to pension eligible!

whats the average age at AT&T? look around ANY room and at 46 I'm general 10 to 20 years younger than everyone else in the room. (i'm guessing call centers and stores would be an exception)

spelling out my point - just because most people moved are one age doesn't mean there is a conspiracy. just the usual outsourcing for a minor uptick in stock.

Accenture has lots of consulting job postings so I set up an interview. Might as well join the winning team that is growing. I wouldn't go as a re-badge though

45 50 isn't old. What world do you live in? I don't mean that disrespectfully. Being 62 I don't feel the same. Still stick it to them if you can but don't let it consume you and keep your head up high. You're better than all of them.

(Case No. 3:17-cv-04827) ─ Motion to compel Arbitration is GRANTED. So, it looks like it is out of the courts.

how do you get in on the class action?

AT&T is facing a class action (Case No. 3:17-cv-04827) because last year they surplussed mostly older workers.
These rebadging efforts look like a way to skirt another class action. They offload older workers on vendors and force them to do their dirty work. They don't have to pay large severances and get rid of their older American workforce. Vendors will in turn renegotiate pay/benefits after the one year or tell employees they have to relocate or else.

Don’t worry, they always include just enough younger people to skirt the age discrimination claim to stay within the law. Unethical? Probably
