Apple CEO Tim Cook is begging the Senate to pass Sen. Mike Lee’s green card giveaway plan to reward multinational tech corporations after years of them importing foreign visa workers to take American jobs.
On Thursday, Lee failed for the fourth time to get his legislation, S. 386, passed out of the Senate. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), would allow Indian nationals to effectively monopolize the U.S. green card system for at least ten years and reward tech corporations like Google, Oracle, and Microsoft — all of which are donors to Lee.

Cook said in a post online:

Immigrants make this country stronger and our economy more dynamic. As a first step toward needed comprehensive reform, I urge the Senate to move quickly to pass the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act. The contributions of these workers are critical to America’s future.

This is why it’s best to get a job that requires a security clearance and keep it. It’s the only way Americans are going to stay employed in this outsourcing/insourcing job market.

Ban all hb visas!

Decades ago companies would sponsor a path to green cards for the h1bs. That's when the best and the brightest came here and assimilated. Now you get average people working for 1/2 the wage and twice the hours, and that's illegal but nothing happens. They are allowing these visa workers to displace high wage American jobs. I don't blame them, I blame the system. Also these companies do hold their visa status over their head, if they start to complain they have others waiting in line to take their place.

Why would tata, tech mahindra sponsor green card? They prefer to keep workers in h1b so they can control wage negotiation undercutting local market wage. Dont equate h1b to gc. 386 is detrimental to offshoring company's business model. They lobby against it. They gain when corporates outsource work so they can take work back to market where currency is much lower than USD.

This bill is a must for Corporate America and it will open the doors for local hires and less offshoring. Most of the H1 folks are already here and stuck in GC queue for decades with infy etc and companies don’t find talent in US as taking over H1 is not easy and high costs associated and eventually companies has to outsource projects. If GC path made easier then Infy and others won’t have much resources and can’t offer cheap services.

Current emerging markets will likely make up the majority of the 10 biggest economies by 2030.
