Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Rumors are this will be a very targeted surgical strike against employees rather than a carpet bombing. They have already decided to leave the Print Centers out and are reviewing functions within the org to hit. Most likely those directly involved in Billing Support which could be as few as 200 employees of the 3,000. The numbers reported on other posts for IBM targets were low, ~1600.

The company has 250,000 employees so this is immaterial in scale which makes you wonder why bother given the negative impact on the entire employee base and limited savings.

This seems like one more failed strategy by the team of Randall/Stankey/Fete.

Fun with Webphone: search for last name Weaklend. Yep, it is exactly what you think. I'm sure Maggie's daughter is smart and educated, but it's amazing that she is a director after only 4 years. Plano isn't one of the hub cities either.

The announcement only mentioned Berger getting Whalen's people and Carpenter getting Stewart's- where did you get the info Whalen (Maggie's buddy) and Stewart were retiring rather than being freed up to manage the outsourcing?

All of Maggie's direct reports will separate from the business. Two retired today (funny they didn't say who or why, they were just left off the announcement). Non-entities I guess. 7 are left, who will be next? Few will go to Accenture. RIF or retire are you most probable outcomes. There is life outside of AT&T, just not in telecommunications.

It's all driven by the cloud transition to Microsoft. AT&T knows the IT Billing and Billing Support teams are needed by the outsourcing companies to migrate to the cloud and once migrated you will no longer be needed by T or the outsourcing companies.

You are the sacrificial lambs to the cloud god.
