Mine came by check and I wasn't given an option for direct deposit.
I wish there had been a direct deposit option with all the mailbox's being broken in to these days.
They say it takes up to 45 days to get and they wait for most of those 45 days to send it.

Retired last year with the MVO offer. Severance was sent to home address (paper check). Suggest you sign up for US Postal service offering known as “Informed Delivery” that sends you a daily email of photo snapshots of letter sized mail coming your way to you mailbox.

My understanding is direct deposit ends after employment, my last paycheck was also sent to my home address as well.

Mine was sent via direct deposit. It was lumped into my last check and arrived on the 6th-ish which was a normal bi-monthly payday.

Nope. Once you are terminated, also terminated your direct deposit is.

The withholdings from your check are irrelevant, it's what you pay at tax time that counts. Severance is not taxed at a higher rate, they just withhold at a higher rate, e.g. a flat 25% vs what you have on your W4.

I am in Nevada and I got a paper check.

As @pmd said below, you will be surprised how much the government takes - maximize all deductions before they pay you.

The logic is as follows, if you get paid 2x month then there are 24 pay periods in the year. If you get 50K severance they will take that and multiply it with 24, will end up with a million dollars. That will be your annual base and you will pay tax on that check as you make a million bucks per year. This means that you will be paying the highest tax brackets in both state and federal.

This all gets resolved in April when you get your refund, almost all of the money will come back but who is willing to wait until April. Just maximize your deductions.

My VSP was sent to me via direct deposit. Last two weeks pay and leftover vacation as well. Tax bite was pretty big.
