Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

A Big Thank You To All Who Honestly Post Here!!!

I just want to thank those who are brave enough to post here and to tell what they know. I was almost on the chopping block for outsourcing but saw the preliminary posts about outsourcing and was able to find a job as an Assoc Director right before the IBM outsourcing based on the posts on this site that said it would be forth coming. I was able to land a job as an Assoc Director in CTO and I am so very thankful as my entire old org in Tech Dev was wiped out and outsourced to IBM and may other friends to Tech M. I need my job as I have young kids and need to get then through college etc, Thank you to all who post here and give invaluable information as well as their honest opinions. I find the Layoffs is very therapeutic sounding board and helpful to all of us going through these hard times.....Again, much appreciation and respect to my fellow employees and I wish you all the best,,,,,,,

No, this not a fake post!....and my kids are young teens not yet adults 13 & almost 15...so they are young and college bound in about 5 years and I hope to still have a job at AT&T in 5 years. If not I am prepared to do what I have to do to find one outside of the company. I posted for every single Lev 2 Management position when I heard about the outsourcing coming since June while others turned a blind eye and said it won't happen to us,,,I have been around long enough to see the Amdocs outsourcing and prior IBM outsourcings so I knew it was most definitely a reality and only concern was when....

All these comments about negativity amuse me. Some people just can't believe that the company they "belong" to could possibly be toxic. What do you need to see to realize what's going on? Massive employee shedding to Indian sweatshops? Not enough. "Activist investors" recommending further dismantling of the company? Grinning jackals like RS and McSelfish prospering while the folks who built the company get tossed overboard? Massive debt? Executive incompetence on display so that all can see it? What does it take? What happens to a Pollyanna when they get the ax? I bet it ain't pretty. The profound sense of betrayal must be debilitating.

Curious to know how u became aware of this Assoc Director job, how long the interview / hiring process took, and what was your title in the previous position. As I recall there was not much advance warning on this board about the timing of the IBM outsource. Generally speaking these surpluses and outsource events can happen in any org and other than the craft surpluses there is not much advance warning about the specifics.

If I were you I'd take all of this swirl as a warning to dust off the resume and shop yourself outside. Don't wait for the door to hit you, take ownership of your 'next'....because there will be one.

Lucky you. I am TechM in about a month from now. But I am near the end of my work life anyway, so it doesn't really matter. 2020 is going to be a strange year for ex-Tech Dev folks. I worked hard for AT&T. I will work just as hard for TechM because that's what professionals do.

@jaj - negative equals reality. just going by the history i have seen and don't really see anything changing. really not trying to be negative just don't really see anything positive.

Thanks, but I don't come here for the negativity and pessimistic attitude.....I come here to share honest information with my fellow employees,,,,When the times come that I have to look outside the company I am prepared to and I will. For now, I want to continue employment at AT&T and keep a positive attitude and do the best I can and hope to be around to see the company turn itself around...…I have always been proud to say I work for AT&T and I hope things will come around and I will proud once more to say this......if not I will give the same dedication to the company that employees me......

don't worry your job will be next and you will have to play musical chairs again. hope you don't get stuck without a seat when the music stops. I would recommend leaving if you want security. there are tons of better places to work.
