I don’t mean to sound soft, given that in today's economy a lot of people are fearing for their jobs, but having to come to work knowing that it could be my last day combined with the thought that even if I stayed, I would be staying at a failing company that has no real vision for the future, is a powerfully toxic combination. So I basically can’t tell which is the lesser of two evils, staying or being cut. Does anyone feel. The same way?

I know this feeling all too well, as it seems I've had it from the entire 20+ years I've worked for the company. And I couldn't agree more, it is a toxic combination of constant fears that are real, not imagined. At least my wife and I are 100% debt free now, which we worked very hard at a long time along with a lot of sacrifices. I'm waiting and hoping for a surplus and leave with a severance, if not, try to time it right and bug out before shafted with something worse like outsource. My greatest concern is the Pension, take the annuity or go lump Doehate to see the directionless direction and bad debt load and decisions our company is making and the water it's taking on. When I retire, and take the annuity and they tank, there goes a big chunk I'm relying on. Or, when I retire take the lump sum, not as great, but free and clear of the suction this ship will create when it as it glides to the bottom.
I know the feeling. Got tired of begging for work and trying to be part of the gang. Wasn’t until the last 4 or 5 years. When reorganize happen because we bought another baby bell or some other company nothing gets done and it starts to be like musical chairs while other folks have the life of Riley because they are somebodies niece or nephew and never get effected by anything. It just isn’t like that at other places. It is weird and sort of a inbred mentality.
Imagine what that feeling, which we all have, is doing to engagement, innovation , real collaboration, etc. nope. “I just work here.”
Yep I know the feeling, problem is I have too much time invested in this sinking ship! Have to ride it out till she sinks. And keep building up my retirement money & pay off all debt. Just here for the money now
