Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

No matter how bad it gets, it will not get Verizon-levels of bad

Yes, the whole Time Warner deal might not work out as well as it was planned, but do you really think it can beat Verizon buying Tumblr for $1.1 billion and then having to sell it for $3 MILLION just a few years on?

I'm almost sad the bar has been set impossibly low for the future...

“DTV - $67B + TW Media - $104B = $171B and in a few years, maybe worth $50B. Maybe we should open a betting pool.“

There already is a betting pool. It’s called the stock market. Put your money where your mouth is....go short the stock.

Has Verizon done stupid things? Sure. But to compare them in any way to AT&T is the height of clueless stupidity.

Verizon is far better managed than Randall's AT&T and it shows in their stock price and their financials.
Although Verizon suffers many of the faults of a large telecom, such as under staffing and micromanagement, they treat their workers far better than the sociopathic clowns running this company into the ground.

Verizon is a stable company, AT&T is a complete train wreck.

Verizon is in better financial shape than AT&T, and their stock is at $56 a share right now, so you’d best not compare Verizon to AT&T.

“as far as the tech side of things its following to a T what Verizon did. Dwindle its tech count so far down, let subscribers cancel service. Verizon would not replace techs who retire. Managers would retire and they just gave their work load to the next manager local until their were none left then they gave it to Area managers until one Manager handled half the state. Now you have many areas where 4 techs cover 50-100 mile areas and have no local manager. Their manager is 250 miles away and cant help with anything but give writeups”

California?

Hmm .. let me think .. Randy gave T Mobile 7 billion dollars in cash and spectrum and got: ZIP, Nada, Nothing ... VZ bought Yahoo for $4.5 billion and at least got some outdated media assets out of it... Even if VZ wrote down all the value they got from the Yahoo acquisition, they are still ahead by $3.5B ... T is the loser her...

Now factor in the DTV devaluation and (the eventual) Time Warner write-down, by the the time Randy and his co-conspirators are down, they will have cost AT&T a staggering dozens of billion dollars of money down the drain, enormous debt load, etc.. AT&T and Time Warner M&A will go down like the failed AOL-Time Warner did in the early 2000s... History repeats itself, only with a different cast of evil, bumbling, greedy fools at the helm... Randy is in the running for worst CEOs ever .. He should get an award for that next year: Most Admired A$$hat CEO ..

VZ did not buy tumblr for $1.1 billion. They bought yahoo/aol of which Tumblr was a part of that.

I think the OP is Randy ... Trying to persuade T folks that you and your minions did not do shockingly id–tic management decisions over the years... and when you think about it, really what has he done since becoming CEO that moved this company forward, for the long term... all words and promises... and just bad repercussions for T.. its a wonder how this jacka$$ is still CEO after all these years..

Well let’s see. They’ve already beat Verizon to the bottom. They bought directv for what , around 60 billion ? Guess what directv is valued at now by the market? About 30 billion. Roughly half. Then there’s the failed takeover of T-mobile where we literally gave away about 7 billion in cash AND SPECTRUM. That spectrum we gave away to T-Mobile is worth considerably more today and in fact is a big reason why t mobile is kicking our a– in many areas. That was good low band spectrum. So yes , Randall has LITERALLY cost our company 10s of billions and yet his pay and bonus increase every year. Why ? Because at the the end of the day the board is happy with him. They are making bank with every dirty backroom deal with the banks. Doesn’t matter if they are k–ling the company in the process. They are getting their payday.
