"All the cussing, screaming and threats in the world won't fix a lack of manpower and / or time to get the work done." spoken like a well seasoned ATT employee. Also sounds like perhaps it's the business management majors with their foul language and lack of creativity that need to get around their own "mental barriers" and start performing. right? aren't they the top performers? that's how everybody got promoted? right?
CRE is selling all office space that does not include critical infrastructure within the building. All managers will report to central office basements. It’s not so bad once you get used to the backed up toilets, roaches and rats.
Every workplace photo you see on our websites and videos shows gorgeous interiors, nice furniture, bright colors. That is not what most of our buildings look like! Backed up sinks, c—roaches, burnt out bulbs, dirty floors, leaks, broken furniture is the norm not the exception. A past employee survey mentioned it and a few sites were spiffed up. The image this company wants to show externally doesn’t match what is going on inside. But hey! It’s all good as long as the uppers have their nice offices, right?
The auction news release.

I saw this article which, while the emphasis was a different subject, it contained this:
"AT&T has said it’s virtualizing its core network by converting outdated central offices and other data-center-type facilities into a modern cloud ..."
So, they might be selling these central office locations for the value of the land.
https://www.fiercetelecom.com/telecom/centurylink-cto-sees-network-virtualization-differently-than-at-t
And you just know these properties have not been maintained for years. AT&T is so stingy with their money that they just let all their properties deteriorate. This company ruins everything it touches.
CRE is selling buildings and leasing back space with equipment, they have 16 central offices for sale in my area. There is actually only one building in our region not for sale due to the specific equipment it houses. This info comes directly from Corporate Real Estate.
The problem is many of those buildings still contain operational equipment whose service has to be relocated to other platforms before the building can be sold. This is not a trivial undertaking.
For example, one of the buildings in Bell South is effectively a hub or distribution site for a large number of Central Offices in the State. ( Large Number = 200+ ) All of those offices have to be moved onto new network architecture to get them off of the existing ones which all terminate in the aforementioned building.
We've been working on it for two years now and still aren't finished . . . . .
Of course, Corporate Real Estate thinks they can just wave a magic wand and everything magically fixes itself. Then the company lays off the team that was scheduling all this stuff. ( Way to go )
So, those building sales might or might not happen in the Fall depending on if the work gets finished on time or not. ( Random Chaos Variable: Bell South Contract is up. See how much gets done if they walk out. )
Pro Tip for T: Keep laying folks off who are doing these projects and your deadlines will become wishful thinking. All the cussing, screaming and threats in the world won't fix a lack of manpower and / or time to get the work done. You could hire contractors I suppose, but it would take them six months just to get up to speed. :D
By critters you mean management?
On a serious note, yes the sale of that many buildings is writing on the wall the either garage consolidated and surpluses are coming.
make sure you have them pest inspected before you buy them. probably all kinds of critters in them buildings.
T has been consolidating and selling off properties since the Bellsouth merger, not a groundbreaking story.
HMMMM 22 properties in the Southeast, and 15 properties in the Midwest. Guess we know now where the major surpluses will be!
