So I’m about a 3 hour drive from nearest official collaboration zone. What is your prediction/theory/knowledge of what is going to happen to employees in situations like this?

This is EXACTLY why I left the company a few months ago. Policies have stopped making rational sense and started having negative effects on peoples’ personal lives. I got sick of it.
AT&T doesn’t know what kind of company it wants to be, nor what kind of workplace it has become. It’s like trying to put together a jigsaw puzzle with the wrong pieces.

Read these posts leadership. This is why people are p-ss-d. You have one organization ATO (MK) with no consistency between different business units. Understood, clearly, that the driver of this whole thing was to stop full time telecommuting and get folks back in an office. Fine, no problem. Next step, well let's look at those offices and who is in them. Now we are forcing people that were already full time office, into OTHER offices (not necessarily "collaboration" offices, either, mind you) in excess of 50 miles from their homes. Where they will also sit with no one in their immediate workgroup. The collaboration angle is a complete joke and everyone knows it. This is 100% about attrition and anyone that doesn't understand that is a doofus. The interesting thing will be next year when the phase 2 people have to start reporting to that office over 50 miles and refuse. I know the common thought is that's it, see you later, no severance. But the language in the severance plan is clear with regard to organizational structure changes and entitlement to severance (in that yes, the person is entitled to it). So either they will be revising plan before then to change the language (would not surprise me), OR they will pay out the severance to the worker than is unwilling/ unable to change to the work location in excess of 50 miles, OR they will be facing a lot of lawsuits.
Makes no sense.....Tech Dev folks who are going to IBM will all be working VO after Sept 1st so what collaboration? IBM folks all do VO....Dark offices for them
Collaboration zone smazeration zone. Tell them where to stick it and keep doing what you have been doing.
THEY WANT YOU TO QUIT SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY SEVERANCE OR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS.

Obviously it depends what officer your roll up through. I know for a fact in ATO JS has a metric of >=80% emps being in a collab zone. If you are part of the 20% you need a 5th level sponsor. So in regards to your question, take this for what you will
I’m forced to a non collaboration zone office with nobody in my org closer than over 2.5 hours away. I’m wondering too what happens next, since nearest cz is over 50 miles (3 hours). I don’t complain my current commute 15 minutes but worried about what is happening in ATO in 2020 if we live no where near a cz.
In ATO under Summers, all forced back into the office, all miserable. Some driving over 2 hours one way to an office with no team members there.
I think op may be working in an assigned office like I am, but no where near a colab zone. I recal an email stating in the future supervisor would announce our new work locations to report to.
No one's getting fired for violating the WFH policy. Why would a manager get rid of an employee when they know they can't hire anybody now ? The big concern is them getting rid of whole departments not individuals because of some lame brain, quasi defined, basically unenforceable policy.
If that is the case I am surprised they have not called you out for not showing up in the office.
In ATO but not under VB. ALL WFH arrangements rescinded effective 5/1/2019. Everyone with the exception of about 2 people need to report to assigned office shown in webphone. M. Knight org
If you are in ATO under SVP VB (the university of alabama fan) and your leadership has not said anything about the WFH policy you may be fine. When you look through the various org charts and see where people are located there are tons outside of collab zones. You did not say what org u are in - As far as we know the collab zone thing was the result of Jeff's January email which itself is very vague. So it may only apply to the folks under him and we now know that managers under SVP - VB have the ability to implement the WFH policy as they wish.
