Surplused employees still getting Severance Pay?

Just wondering if the recent round of surplused managers got the standard 6 months Severance Pay?
Been hearing rumors that T will be getting rid of that offer soon if they have not already done so.

For managers getting boomed, no worries...there are no jobs to apply for,let alone one magically being offered.

"The 50+ mile scenario is only when they offer you a position without you applying and that really only happens for technicians not managers.,,"

You are completely incorrect. Managers are also impacted in this way, say when they are surplussed and elect to stay on the additional 60 days to find another internal opportunity. If they are offered one in excess of 50 miles from their current work location they may refuse it, and they are still entitled to their severance per the plan. If they are offered onw within 50 miles, they must accept it and if they don't they forfeit their severance. That precedent has been set.

Again the question remains unanswered for management assigned to a new work location (same job) that is in excess of 50 mi. from their current location, coming out of this "Project Collaboration" thing in ATO. If they refuse, will they be entitled to their severance or not? No answer.

I do know of an instance where the Surplus Manager had made contact with an old colleague that had a new position come available yet needed to clear Career Path offering. The Surplus Manager ran out of time, was officially off payroll for 2 weeks but was hired for the vacant position. Amazingly they were able to show him as LOA for the off time where he lost no time to his NCS. He was very lucky he was wanted. His situation is one in a million. It can happen.

First off they aren’t going to just offer you another job, you have to apply for one and then obviously beat out all the other candidates to get the job. Second if you apply for any position and get offered the position and then refuse the position you will not get a severance. The 50+ mile scenario is only when they offer you a position without you applying and that really only happens for technicians not managers. And if it is passed 50 miles and they offer the position to you without you applying for it and you deny it you do keep your severance. I know several managers who were laid off and they were sent home same day (also given the option to continue to manage but who would choose that?) and were told to look for a job and you have 60 days to find one. Just know that you have to have all the paperwork done for a new position in 60 days, so if they offer you a job on day 59 you could potentially be screwed if your boss is a jerk because on day 60 you’re removed from the company and they have the choice not to continue with offering you the position.

Managers will not receive severance when they are fired. They will receive a punch in the nose and kick in the rear of their skirt and invitation to get out.

6 months severance isn't standard for all managers. You have to have a certain number of years of service to max out at that rate. Otherwise it's a formula. I can't remember exactly how it's calculated. Employees with only a few years won't be close to 6 months under att severance

The management severance plan is on HR ONE Stop for anyone to read, though I am not sure it addresses this situation specifically. I also know leadership will still not answer the question: When I am forced to new location in excess of 50 miles and I decide I can’t do that, what happens? Involuntary termination? I am entitled to my severance or not?

The wording in the plan seems clear that someone in that situation should be entitled to severance, but the fact they won’t answer makes me think the policy may indeed be under revision.

What is IBM severance? Need to know because AT&T 'transfers' will get the boot sooner or later from IBM.

Here’s the deal, and I’m open for corrections:

If you are tagged to transfer over to IBM (or any company) and you went....No Severance from AT&T.
If you are tagged to transfer to another company (by T) and you refused.....No Severance from AT&T

  • * T now has the option to keep you in your current position, re-assign you, or discharge you w/out a
Severance as you were offered and subsequently refused the transfer, or continued employment
within the company.....the operative phrase is No Severance.

As for the state, unless T gives you a involuntary boot out the door, they may very well refuse you as well.....but that’s the risk you take and a phone call to the UE office in your state might iron that out.

I would very much like to be wrong as I would take the Severance in an instant.
