Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T TV......end of Uverse or another flop?

Our sales teams will be offering AT&T TV in these markets beginning 8/19. In these targeted pilot areas only, U-verse TV will no longer be available for new sales, but existing customers can remain on U-verse TV unless they move or have a voluntary or non-pay disconnect.

nobody wants any service from att. att doesn't put any money into service or maintaining anything unless it has like 20000% profit. they never try to make anything they have better they junk what they have and go buy the next new shiny toy. why would you as a customer be forced to follow what att is doing. they also use it as an excuse to get rid of people because of course they can't operate the new toy they just bought. probably some kind of randy accounting.

T needs to leave the dying content game and double / triple down on being the best internet provider out there . No more dead spots all fiber to home and 5g .. internet is a f’in utility . Shut the internet off and see how many people lose there sh!t !! It’s not a luxury anymore it’s a necessity

Its because Uverse gets installed in places with bad connections or slow speed

True. In order to get numbers they pushed the envelope as far as loop length. Toss in the fact that our sales folks had no reliable data base to use as to where service could actually be offered. Just because the person across the street could get it didn’t mean you could if the cable feeding you was different. Seen some obscene amount of drop strung to provide the service in some instances. Of course the next door neighbors then wanted the service.

Customers have to sign up for a 2 year contract like DTV and are limited to 3 streams that will be impacted by how many things your recording and watching. It’s a flop right out the door. T is really late to the steaming live TV game with one of the biggest appeals to signing up to services like Sony Vue, Sling Tv and YouTube TV stripped away. These established services allow you to turn on and off your subscription at any time so you can subscribe to when a sport event or series you want to watch is on and immediately unsubscribe as soon as it’s done. So now T is going to force people into a 2 year streaming service and be at the mercy of their nickel and dimming and sudden raise in monthly price without being able to escape without a penalty. This is why T fails because they are so greedy and want to treat every service and customer like they mistreat and abuse their cell phone customers with added fees and other bs that other streaming services don’t have and why they are actually popular.

Not sure if it’ll flop or not but I have a feeling they are gonna push it down the customers throats hard.
Very interested to see the marketing on this.

Got rid of uverse and internet because of all the billing screw ups. My wireless is next. Uverse was a good product and they could of easily set streaming up with uverse. Totally mismanaged but that is what happens when you get non technical people making technical decisions. Maybe they will be better at what shows to stream to their new customers.

Per some conversations I had with someone 2-3 years ago Uverse never had any margins. Very capital and expense intensive. Even the content costs were higher than DTV. That might have changed lately due to them cutting costs out of the service but no business maintains a service that doesn’t have a positive impact on the bottom line unless forced to by things such as the government.

I was on the lead team as a level 3 that launched Uverse. It reminded me of the days when I was part of introducing the iphone in our retail channel for the first time. Much like the demand for iphone, it was similar with Uverse. It was and still is an awesome product. Sadly, after the hundreds of millions T put in to launching this great product, it is slated sunset in 2021(from what I hear but I don't have the facts on this) which seems to be the pattern over the last five or so years. Invest tons of shareholder cash then close up shop and move on to the next shinny object. Left T several years ago but still smile every quarter when I get a dividend check. Take emotion and feeling out of the equation, with this market, 6% yield is pretty good imo.

I predict another flop.

Customers overall, especially the cord cutter types don't trust AT&T.

Also, Cord Cutters don't want "Cable channel only its streaming". They want "Shows on demand" (Hulu, Amazon Prime). They want to sit down and watch 3-4 episodes of a series, commercial, not wait for them to show up every week and be loaded with stupid ads.
