Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is ANYBODY safe at AT&T right now?

Is there a department or specific location or position or any single person (outside of the top management, of course) who can be considered safe?

It's hard for me to believe that every employee in the company lives with the same stress I do each day (that is a lot of people,) but judging by everything I've been reading here, it seems to be true.

Even in retail sales they told us they’re looking to move along people from the company who don’t succeed with the new TV launch, which is basically DirecTV Now with a box and remote except more expensive and a two year contract.

AT&T was safe when it was Pacbell...AT&T has been laying off good employees since SBC took over. I worked 15 years and got laid off. NO JOB IS SAFE IF YOU WORK FOR THEM! Start polishing up your resume, so that you are ready when your time comes.

I’m in sales and just went through my 6th reorg/surplus since 2014. Two this year so far. Every channel is constantly changing.

Mobility Wireless Techs are generally safe for now. Seems like this entire page is regarding DTV and wireline.

@10yy Hate to burst that bubble you’re living in, but it don’t matter how much 2020 training you have or how much work, the company can still lay you off tomorrow! Seens it happen too many times. Why can’t people understand this??!

Our group is safe. A few weeks ago we went through a 2 week training course on line that was geared toward WF 2020 work responsibilities. We will have work for a very long time.

I would say if you're at the Director level or higher, you pretty much have nothing to worry about.

I thought Slovakia was safe but they got hit with all the rest of us being shipped off to IBM on Sept 1st.
We were all over worked and under staffed. It didn’t matter, the reaper came for everyone...

Permtechs around here are taking matters into their own hands and finding better jobs and leaving this h#llhole behind. Since I don't see this as a place I would EVER want to spend my life at, I'm not particularly stressed. I'm just collecting the OT and building up my savings until I move on to greener pastures.

You are safe if your name in John and you are an Officer.

No one is “safe” but you can choose to only worry about things you can control.

years of Far Exceed, Extraordinary Impact, recognition awards, multiple patents, a Subject Matter Expert and integral part of an ATS team, i thought i was safe. I wasn't. Nobody is safe at that company.

@hxl - you are very right! and @nql - You are never safe and don't believe for a minute that a lot of work protects you. Take it from me, who was part of an overworked/understaffed team, our team was surplussed and jobs shipped to Mexico City. India and Slovakia weren't touched.

No one is safe. Mgmt will come in and decide they need to get rid of so many people due to budget. Doesn’t matter who you are.

@fhf - hit the nail on the head. T is like no other place I worked or worked since. It is a cesspool. Trust no one.

If you are in the US, you are never safe. But if you're in Slovakia, India, Philippines and Czech Republic, you are very safe.

Yeah the amount of work doesn’t matter. They will shutdown an entire department/yard etc on a whim because let’s be honest it’s not like they know what they are doing anyway. They really don’t care about the customer because they’ll just lie to them why everything is taking so long or people not showing up at all etc.

Live stress free my friend.. I”ve learn that at ATT..
1) stress & hard work:unemployment
2) stress free & not carrying:unemployment.

The truth is, it doesn't matter how hard you try. How much work you have. How many times you give yourself a hear attack. ITS ABOUT WHO YOU KNOW AND WHO LIKES YOU... So many good people were shown the door. Yet, so many imbeciles stayed. Hyenas run in packs. Just make sure you are not lunch. CYB with what ever you can, so when they do let you go, you can sue. Believe me, i have seen ALOT of people win wrongful termination lawsuits from ATT.. look them up its public records.

@nq1. I hear having a lot of work doesn’t mean anything. The company can shift a lot of work over to another group or country just as easy as they can send very little work. Don’t want you to have false hopes.

Our work group took over another groups work last year, and we have so much work, it is coming out of our ears! The Boss is saying we are safe for a good while.

Even the techs are stressed. They can’t just be techs anymore. They have to meet sales quotas now too. If they don’t submit a minimum number of leads then they’re counseled. They have to constantly worry about all their metrics instead of fixing the issue or be written up. They were just recently told they will be SUSPENDED WITHOUT PAY if they are found without their third cone out. It’s really gotten beyond stupid.
