Trials will soon be under way to replace U-verse IPTV with AT&T tv (happening this month). T will discontinue selling IPTV and will drop ship an AT&T tv set top box or use customers existing capable hardware. If the customer needs assistance installing it, for the time being it will be a Prem Tech but soon will be transitioned over to IHX. Prem Tech title will soon be phased out.

I’ve been beta testing this for over a year and lately it’s been really good. You won’t have to use the set top boxes for everything as the login for the box also works for the dtv now app. I just logged in my osprey account to dtv now and it works like a charm. No buffering and all the channels. Finally a product that will take down the satellite and bring dtv to everyone with semi decent internet.
If it's DTV Now rebranded, it will buffer like crazy and people will throw it. And if you have to go to a menu to change the channel instead of pushing a channel button, even more of those left will throw it out. And if you have an insanely small limit on how much you can record, even more of those left will throw it out. And if you can only keep content that the "cloud DVR" actually recorded for 30 days, even more will throw it out. And on and on.
Been there, tried it, and I threw it out even for $10 employee cost. TV should be an escape, not an aggravation.
Why do you think they have been pushing to sell the WiFi extenders and walk around testing for coverage in homes? They think they have a WiFi coverage problem when the problem is their slow old dsl. You can bounce that wifi all the way to the forest but it’s still slow dsl lol.
This has got to be the dumbest idea yet. An inferior product offering with a stupid name to boot. Yikes! And how exactly am I supposed to hook this damn thing up to my 768Kb high speed Internet that ATT offers in my neighborhood?
prem techs phased out? Ok, so what magical internet will this streaming box be using? These Ihx sales douches surely won’t be installing the internet.

As far as sales go, this is an absolute loser. Osprey will be a step down in performance from UVerse and will be non competitive with internet based television services from competitors.
The only way this is a win (in AT&T's eyes) is that is will allow for another large reduction in workforce. AT&T's main focus seems to be on reducing workforce and making irresponsible acquisitions. But if you neglect your product and your customer in the process, that is a recipe for failure.
It’s DTVnow rebranded as ATTtv and unless your grandfathered in to the old app and are transitioned to the redesign all new customer have to use the new box to download the app. Yes folks T really beileives they have a winner now by offering the same app that failed as DTVnow only renamed as ATTtv and forced into purchasing yet another android box that isn’t even capable of 4K and if it where it wouldn’t matter with our antiquated copper dsl and fiber hardware that no one can get to work right. Good luck with that as we laugh at yet another lame attempt to compete with established tech/entertainment companies. Disney+ is going to while the floor with that wannabe Hollywood exec Randall.

It’s DirecTV rebranded and there’s a refreshed UI experience. Also comes with a proprietary set top box code named “Osprey” (publicly reported) which is an android based device. You can also use your own capable device (one that can install the app).
How will it be different from U-verse?
While both are IP-based TV the experience is different. With AT&T tv (stylized as “tv” on the app but the website shows “TV”) you can use it with any internet connection, not the case with U-verse. Channel switching speed will be dependent on your internet connection speed which will almost certainly be slower than traditional U-verse TV.
