Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Retail Mobility

I know a lot of people from the Retail side are worried about the future. The company is trying to k–l the union by opening more dealer locations.

Dealer locations have no moral compass and no over head for the company, yet all the sales.

In D3 Mobility, our Union is WEAK. Especially in Florida. We have NO sick days. We get 2, “MeTime” days that come out of your PTO/Vacation days.

Our commission is a joke. $3 for upgrades, $3 for activation of everything else except new VOICE gross ads. That’s $30. They pay us most for a fledgeling product: DirecTV, $105? Depending on footprint.

To be honest, I’ve told anyone coming to upgrade an iPhone to wait until September. Why? They’ll be cheaper and a new one is coming. Customers would be mad not getting the “newest” or a better price.

We’re practically forced to activate fraud because “that’s gross ads you’re missing” or “how do you KNOW it’s fraud.”

Just roll the entire commission into the hourly pay. Keep the same pay step progression. Pay spiffs on the Fame card.
Stop power ranking employees on dashboard. Sure it’s sales, but most of those take 0 skill. The ones that are blowing it out are likely not disclosing the full deal or slamming.

Share this post PUBLICLY. For customers to see. Let them know that we really don’t care what phone you upgrade too and neither does the company. They want you to ADD more VOICE lines to your account and get DirecTV.

I think the union has a large part of the transition. The union certainly has certainly allowed entry level retail workers to make good money, have solid benefits, and has allowed senior employees unheard of work/life balance in the retail industry. On the flipside, it has paralyzed their retail channel to adapt in a time where there is so much outside pressure on retail profitability. Want to change direction? You'll have a heck of a time doing that with a bargained workforce. Bargained employees don't like to be told that they need to do something different - regardless of what it is. Want do staff properly for peak hours and times? Not in a bargained workforce. Peak hours are when you most experienced staff wants off. Attract new talent? No bueno.. You could be the biggest asset to the business, but "John", the toxic employee that has stuck around nagging for 20 years, will get the benefit based on seniority. There is limited way to reward performance in an entitled environment. Need flexibility to take care of life issues? Well, many retail jobs work w schedules, make changes, swap shifts, or work as a team to allow you to take care of each other. However, in COR you cannot edit that schedule, reps won swap shifts to prove a point, and you're locked in. Union will tell you that's AT&T's fault for not allowing more sick days whatever - however these ridged rules come from a need to be "fair" for union needs. Don't like being micromanaged? Well, if you can't hold accountability on results - you look at behaviors. When you start managing behaviors you invite micromanagement.

Then profitability... I mean it's retail... go find some other retail jobs that treat retail workers better. Hell, go find another bargained workforce in retail. It's far and few between. The money to do that isn't the best business decision. I'd be looking to be competitive in the marketplace and find a new process as well. Hence the IHX, BAT, Mobile Retail, AR, and Ignite programs. It s—s for those who put all their eggs in one basket and thought a retail job was going to be their career, however you have to be realistic.

I left COR after many years on both sides - RSC and Management. I can tell you that there is a lot of money out there in the world of Solution Providers. Maybe not AR vs COR. It also is a lot different working for a small company. However, you certainly can get paid significantly more still working w AT&T solutions on the other side of the fence. I didnt beleive it. I held off for a long time. It took some real investigation and seeing some of the pay stubs, however it's real... So, don't look at some of these AR employees and think your s–t doesn't stink. They might just be onto something that you're blind to see. Likewise - I can say there are a LOT of AR stores that do some wild stuff.... lol. Woo some of the escalations we saw that originated from AR you wouldn't beleive. No one is perfect in this world! Lol

So yes, the new guys with 1 year or less experience push nonsense onto COR. Anyone with more experience than that will be smart enough to know that if you do something for a customer like TOBR, and explain the situation you will gain a customer for life. Simple data transfers done right will too. FYI, never try to gain validity by using the title of RAE. In all my years I've only had 1 RAE that had an IQ over 50. I had an RAE tell me COR stores were doing 80 digital life a month. All you guys did was spew out BS. What is your job requirement for that position? Driver's license? Go back to looking at your metric charts, doing your side by sides, inside outs, hokey pokeys and whatever self justification you need to do. I'm busy running a successful business, Oh, don't bother showing up for IGNITE. Don't need any fraud here.

Oh yeah...the person who works in AR is insane. You people need COR because you won’t do anything that isn’t making you money. Need an issue solved? Oh sorry..go to the COR store, we don’t handle that here. Have a transfer of service? Go to COR- we don’t do that here. So don’t give me that cra# about losing customers, because you lose just as many. And WE have to go to YOUR stores every month to IGNITE and teach you how to sell DTV. Do you seriously think we want to push it down people’s throats? The company forces that on us. And you don’t make $$. I was an RAE- I know how much you guys get paid, you get nothing like we do, monetarily or benefits wise. So shut your trap.

I work for an AR. Not Prime or any of the big ones. We really don't want to see COR go. Every time you pressure a customer to buy DirecTV, they come to us and never go back to you. They want someone who will be there the next time they go back, well that's us too. Let's not forget that we're strictly a non slamming store. Customers prefer that. The COR store down the road slams people the second they greet them. It's the 2nd of the 5 key behaviors. Greet, slam, empathize, don't care, thank them and walk them to the door. You make me look better. It's like an average girl stands next to Rebel Wilson. All of a sudden the average girl looks like Mia Khalifa. Keep up the good work. Sign people up for DTV without knowledge. Just keep doing what you're doing. You make me richer.

Maybe the work/life balance the company praises is why some people work Monday-Friday. Maybe more senior employees working busier shifts doesn’t allow less senior employees to make their numbers. There are only so many customers and their “need” to come to a store is very minimal.

What I have always questioned is why commission based employees don’t work when the business is in the store? Is a Monday-Friday schedule forced on you?

“You finish consistently at 70%-80% to goal never 100%. These (pt) employees are at 100%. And this (FT) is at 100%.”
Yes, they’re PT employees. And he (FT) works weekends. We don’t have enough customers to go around during the week.
“Well you’ve been employed long enough to know how to hit your numbers, what is preventing you from doing that?”
WE HAVE NO TRAFFIC DURING THE WEEKDAYS. THE TRAFFIC WE GET IS LUCK OF THE DRAW. PLUS YOUR NEW HIRE ALREADY HAS 10 CHARGEBACKS. AS WELL AS THE HOTSHOT YALL PULLED IN FROM THE OTHER STORE, HE HAS 8 CHARGEBACKS.

The managers just want Dtv submissions and vga posted on rankings. They give no s about chargebacks.

I would go back to plain old basic cable before I bought a satellite.

Customers still want a body to talk to for problems. It maybe dead for att but I still think people will go to the stores when they need to go.

Retail is dead. Get out. Online offers “digital” is slowing traffic..So is.... In Home Experts aka we process b2b orders from home and not visit homes daily, & mobile truck will park at events to drink beer. All those factors (choices) + the customer picking other providers like Visible (Verizon for $40), TMO, And other providers for 1/2 $ without taxes & fees. Why ? When coverage is less of a factor then 5 yrs ago. Unless the customer has added a fake fan code like IHX is adding military to everyone; why stay?
