Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Next Round?

I’ve heard rumors of another round of layoffs this fall, I assume scope will be dependent upon our debt pay down efforts. We’ve been told “majority of layoffs are behind us” but I’m not sure that’s realistic given our current strategy to cut expense.

I’ve noticed a pattern - it seems they hit one dept one month, hit another the next month, then a third dept the next month - so once per quarter your group has a FMP. It’s been working this way for a couple of years now, sometimes big cuts sometimes small but it’s constant. It seems to me that it’s a way of getting rid of older folks to make room for millennials. And the new tactic is to offer you a job in a distant city because they know most people won’t want to uproot and move - and they also are telling people to go to distant collaboration zones knowing most won’t do it.

Get a clue. 'Out sourced to IBM' is not a layoff.

can't be more layoffs if you outsource them all

“majority of layoffs are behind us” ... do you by chance see the Kool Aid character dancing around your office?

Look at the financial statements and those Business units that are losing customers. If you are bleeding 1 million customers a year in a lot of the old Legacy world and starting to exceed those with our tv products what is the expectation?

Back it on up here, show me what you're working with.

I wouldn't be surprised of another round after the dust settles and any reorganization takes place. Doubt if it will happen next quarter.

The company turned around 180°. Layoffs are now behind them.

I assume it will be decided by process improvement, automation, and general availability of work, or lack thereof. And that availability is somewhat driven by customer demand.

What you're implying is, AT&T retains workers to play tiddlywinks that they can just get rid of at will. If they have such workers, they need to get rid of them no matter what.

“Red October” seems to be the popular catch phrase that most of us have heard regarding Surpluses. Tech Devs, with the latest surplus (excuse me, T management prefers to call it outsourcing of assets) of about 9K and the hits that the CWA’s have taken as they finish up their Fiber Buildouts throughout the country, we’re pretty much expecting that Randy will leave an early Christmas present under the tree....as he has been accustomed to doing!

The majority of layoffs may be behinds us....you might be right. But the numbers crunchers are hard at work. The company has told the world that T’s debt should be down to ~$150b by the end of 2019 and I’m sure the upper brass knew their next moves months ago, and how it would be accomplished, so count me surprised if it doesn’t happen!

Use this time to squirrel away emergency funds and good luck.
