Off air antennas. Another way to save cash...

When you think it couldn't get any more comical, att finds a way to make it. Several markets lost their local channels, att is shipping out off air antennas to customers.. i know they are trying to save $ by not renewing the contracts, but damm off air antennas lol...

I agree with T on this one. Got to control costs because you can only pass on so much before people leave as we can already see with our TV offerings.

Of the three major broadcast networks, CBS is the only station that feels their content is worth consumers hard earned dollars and don't offer a "Now" app. What a joke. Those networks are on their way out. Another source for OTA broadcasts is Locast (locast.org). Currently only available in 13 major cities, it's growing and doesn't cost a dime. There's also a Roku app for it.

"The company is looking to create leverage by trying to show customers they can get the channels for free and CBS/NBC/ABC that they aren't worth the price they are demanding. "

This is 100% correct. And as a 25 year employee, I am not terribly happy with most of the stuff the company has done over the last several years. But in this case, they are right. The networks are demanding more $$$ for a product that John Q Public isn't interested in that much in anymore.

The best way to do over-the-air is go to the free site www.antennaweb.org where you can enter your address and see the channels available, the direction from your home for each broadcast tower, and an idea of what kind of antenna (indoor amplified and direction or outdoor you can put in the attic or on the roof). I live 23 miles out from a major city and have two amplified indoor antennas with the output cables combined for the strongest signal and get over 68 channels. And they are both upstairs - get them as high as possible.

What is the ordering information for a low-cost, digital antenna guaranteed to work?

I haven’t had a tv in 3 years and I don’t miss it at all. I do use local station apps fr news feeds. That pretty much sums up what T is trying to achieve; turn the company into an app.

And then T's customers wake up and realize that a digital antenna was all they really needed in the first place. Much better HD picture and it's free. Why pay outrageous monthly package fees and $10/ month for each set top box?

I recently scanned for over the air channels and I found 73 digital channels. Sadly our customers will find the same thing.

Over the air antennas!! That’s how it all started and it is all anyone needs. 4 channels of c-ap not worth watching instead of 105 channels of c-ap not worth watching.

I've been thinking that DirectTV should never have carried channels available over-the-air. Instead, their receivers should have accepted an antenna input so that satellite and over-the-air channels be selected seamlessly.

They're losing customers over rising costs. They have to control the costs.

So let me get this straight...T is helping its customers by showing them a way to circumvent using T's products.

Brilliant.

Idk who to believe on this one, Nexstar or T. I don't know why T doesn't just pass the cost on to consumers(as happens with many companies) if T is worried that the missing channels is going to cost them a large loss of customers or if this is a line in the sand/last straw for T.
