Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

To all those employees who think they are safe from surplus.......

What you think is only being done to others will eventually be done to you.
AT&T does NOT care about you, you are just an added expense on a spreadsheet.
Treat your peers with respect and compassion, you may need their help elsewhere.

In the meantime, prepare for the worst.........it's just a matter of time before your number is up!

@4vya.... didn't RS start out in the mail room? ...and has a brother that's is a cable repair tech? Not covering for him. Maybe it's not a "ain't never been there before" deal and more of a "forgot where you came from" situation.

I miss Stan Sigman. He started out pushing a broom and made a career out of it. Randall and the Johns have never worked a day in their life. If they’d worked side by side with us at any point of their careers, they’d know exactly why were losing customers. It’s not because we don’t have the right “brand marketing consultants”, it’s because we’re losing the employees who’ve always cared about our customers, each other and the company’s bottom line. Keep firing the people who made AT&T great and replacing them with short sighted robots looking out for “number one” and ready to leave after they’ve screwed over the few decent folks left. Miss you Stan!

@2xja
…" call HR with half a dozen "what if" questions..."

How does one even "call" HR these days? On One Stop, I don't see any contact info for AT&T HR at all. You can call Fidelity for retirement/ pension questions, etc.; but I don't see a way to contact an actual human AT&T HR employee.

Working at T is a lone journey..... you’re at your own. Everybody is a silo, in their own business, in there own little world.

@1fxk....you "made it" to management? Was there a big line of folks you had to get past? Barring some medical condition or family situation there's no way in Hades I'd take the paycut and the headache that comes with a salaried 0 job security protection management position.

@2lvi, it’s been said that a little hope is a good thing. I personally prefer the proper amount of skepticism and paranoia that keeps my mind clear, head low and out of sight.

So here’s your test, call HR with half a dozen "what if" questions having to do with pension, surplus possibilities, outsourcing to IBM, maybe medical coverage questions that have bothered you......any questions you have always wanted answers too.

Now, if the thought of calling HR, giving your name & SS# and asking those questions caused you to hesitate, even for a split second.....there’s the answer to your own question.

Good luck

Perhaps surpluses will be put on hold a while. After all, we are now turning it all around and things are good again.

When Captain Obvious was surplused, no one cared. Thats the way it is here, quit crying about it. You act like your the only one to be eliminated.

@1qmu. You hit the mail on the head. It’s weird. Move as fast as you can. Lots of better places with better benefits around. T is a waste of time.

I have a job at T and they pay average. Working here is hard because there are many politics and many moving parts. It is hard to feel you are making a difference in a big company specially when you work remote from your team. Working at AT&T is important to know people so you can get things done. I've heard the CSO teams and AT&T Labs are one of the best teams to work on but I did not find that to be the case because I do not know too many people. I have been here for 4 years and I am ready to move into another job outside the company. It is hard to make a difference and make IT changes without politics and I am not good at politics.. I get to work from home all the time, nobody shows up in the office, it is like nobody cares...that is a weird work environment

Thats all I am waiting for, surplus me. 1.3M between 401K and lump sum, a wife who still works (medical covered) SS for both of us and then her pension as icing on the cake. Yep I am retiring this year. This IBM thingy sure screwed up the next surplus, hopefully they execute delayed surplus plans soon.

46 years, 1.3 million in 401K, plus a little pension when I’m ready to go and my SS check. I don’t owe anyone a d—n thing especially a job. I’m going to ride this thing until I’m good and ready.
Like it or love it, I’m here to stay!!!!!!!

Stop this. Focus on your work and add value. Work 12+ hours, spend 8 managing up. You will be so exhausted, you will sleep soundly. Get up and do it over and over. You will be just fine.

you're here which means you must have a fear in the back of your mind of being surplussed, otherwise it wouldn't matter what information leaked out on this site now would it @1znn

I’m still going to show up and work my butt off until they show me the door, I’ll walk out with my head high and plenty of contacts as I transition to my next career. Started as an I&R tech and made it to a 2nd line manager, made some good memories and great friends here. I’d honestly love to work another ten years but probably won’t get the opportunity.

Unfortunately they wont touch this. I am so valuable to the company.

I started the movement aka project upperdecker.

I have confirmation the movement has now reached 18 states.

Why do you think the company is begging like a dog for me to take their offer???

FYFO.

I want a buyout or the movement continues.

In this small world anything can happened, and as the poster said, be nice. It will be a lot easier for you to land on your feet when you have a large network of ex colleagues whom like you vs a large network of colleagues who think of you as a POS...
