Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Are the benefits at IBM worse?

This seems like the logical thing to ask. What consequences could the move to IBM produce for the employees in terms of the benefits ? Does a re badge to IBM mean getting a whole new set of benefits that could be worse than the ones we had at AT&T, or do they have the obligation to maintain the current level of benefits for those employees?

The employee should be the single payer of health care, but I suspect you thought the government would be a good single payer. Think about this, if govenrment is a good single payer for health care, why not for cell phones, TV, and wifi?

My favorite IBM "benefit" is that 401k match only happens on a single day each year. If you're not there for it, you lose.

It's gotten to the point that our businesses can't be competitive while offering health insurance. Or the employee gets hit with the cost.

We need some form of single payer health insurance, because we can't compete labor cost-wise with country's that do have single payer. Not having to cover that cost for their workers is a huge competitive advantage.

I am impacted and the biggest thing folks noticed when seeing some preliminary numbers is that IBM health care is calculated per child.
There isn’t a blanket “family” coverage.
If you have 2 or 3 kids it will be more expensive. God help you if you have 4 or more.

Depends upon the agreement. Typical outsourcing agreements retain the same number of vacation days (whether classified as vacation or personal, etc.), and other benefits. However, after 12 months of employment at the new company you then have the same benefits as all other IBM employees.

Well you get to move your wireless account to T-Mobile, where you can get 2 lines with senior discount at a price comparable to your ATT employee discount. They also have the magical ability to tell you the price of the plan, with taxes and fees included, right at the store. No more waiting for a huge surprise at the end of the month.

They also sell a streaming TV service and will pay your ETF to cancel DTV, and in some areas they offer wireless home internet.

Their health care costs are higher, it's why for the 1st 12 months they are giving people a quarterly check to offset the increased costs.

Also it's my understanding it only covers in-network care, anything out of network is out of pocket. I'm waiting to hear from someone who gets an actual offer package that includes those costs. So far the offer letters are devoid of meaningful information.

I can't imagine that they have a higher cost healthcare plan than T for non bargained folks.
