Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

When are the IEFS (Wire Techs) and TFS (Core) techs going to consolidate into the same Work Groups? Before or after the next surplus list 09/13?

I have heard this is happening in the very near future; but, haven't heard very much about it recently. Will the timing of this consolidation be reflected in the September or the December Surplus lists? Thanks!

The reorg really won’t change a single thing. Prem techs will continue to have more work responsibility put on their shoulders with no added pay or benefits for it. CIM techs will continue to talk about how they get their email that they can go home at 2:30 every day and how they don’t have enough work, but don’t really need the overtime anyhow because they make twice as much as we do.

Trialing in LA in the Southeast currently. Integration will begin in October. Will only come down as far as L2 (Area Manager) for now. Area Managers will have I&M (POTS/ATM DSL), Cable Repair, Air Pressure, Central Office, U-Verse and DTV field ops after integration. If you want it from the horses mouth, call Tracy Garner as she is the Integration VP over the project across the enterprise.

Consolidation has been happening all over the company the past few years especially with the inside forces at some level, if nothing but the call trees. Eliminate duplicate centers initially and then different groups crossing training. Not as many tasks to cross train on due to automation of the mundane ones, especially in a lot of the declining Legacy products.

October could be right. I hear Management is referring to the month as "Red October". It just seems to me unless business turns up, we are going to have way too many techs if they combine all these skill-sets into one group. Whoever is left must be a know-it-all, do-it-all, jack of all trades and master..........well you know.

Where is all the rumors coming from? I’m hearing some crazy numbers about I&R surplus for next quarter. Some as much as 75%. Is there any solid info here or is it just rumors. Core I&R is already stretched thinner than I have ever seen it. There is a network out there that needs to be maintained. I just don’t know where the cuts are going to be unless it’s another Prem/Wire tech cut.

T is nothing if not predictable, the Christmas spirit seems to affect Randy in October and he likes to leave a Surplus under the tree. We know him as Scrooge but you can pick any name you wish.....
