Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Collab Zone feels like I am working

At a bench in the mall on Saturday afyernoon leading up to Christmas. Total chaos with people coming amd going non stop. These people come into the office with rolling luggage like they are foing to Europe for 2 weeks, take 20 minutes to set up, hangout for a few hours and then pack it all up and leave by 3. In at 11 and out at 3. Collab Zones what a joke

There was in the Ameritech region. We were fine and profitable until the Cowboys showed up to tell us we were doing it all wrong. They took over and changed the entire outside workforce process. Nothing but penny pinching from 2001 on.

There never was an SBC takeover.

Wow, reading these comments remind me of what was being said in the craft side of the house back in the early 2000s after the SBC takeover. We were called whiners and to get thicker skin or leave.

I used to have home office... worked from before 7am- after 5pm then I’d work in evenings on projects and every Sunday I’d work hour or so to get me week lined out... now I’m forced into office an hour away so my computer stays in the office... I basically work 8-4 and eat at my desk... not much collaboration with anyone then go home... no more evenings or weekends...

T gets less of my time for same pay...

I don’t feel bad because I’m giving up two hours or more depending on traffic just to commute daily plus the added gas money and maintenance on my vehicle...

When you gave me flexibility and my time back I gave you more productivity, more hours and more focus...

T leadership, you did this not me...

You’ve created a “I better f— you before you f— me some more” mentality...

I’d equate it to walking in a nice restaurant, going in the kitchen and telling the cook he’s not doing a good job then letting the waiters know they won’t be getting a tip tonight and telling the manager you hear this place is being shut down soon... then wondering why your meal and service weren’t good...

Routine works. Ask an athlete. Keeps you at peak performance. Conditions you for the unexpected. If you put an athlete in a collaboration zone (or any chaotic environment) it interrupts their routine, making them less effective than before. Case closed, send them home tomorrow.

What were the people who are not giving 100% doing before the collab zones? Finishing projects early and volunteering for more, answering the phone past your “scheduled” 8 hours, etc. Didn’t see that even before these zones in a lot of cases. People that hired in when a Mgr was told that 9-10 hours were expected suddenly started packing up early. All of this not giving 100% talk is probably filtering up and saying we have too many people in some cases. Try being a outside Mgr and have a major cut cable or a tech has a accident late and you tell your boss that you can’t deal with it because you get off in 15 minutes.

Just got outsourced to Tech M. Goodbye collaboration zone, never going back there. What a waste of time, driving and money that was.

People who are not treated well do not care. Who is going to bust their butt for executives who couldn't care less about them? We are lied to regularly, our jobs are insecure, our "leadership" is clearly incompetent. What would motivate hard work and commitment.

Here's a hint for "leadership": commitment is a two way street. Don't expect commitment if you can't give it in return.

Beating a dead horse, it's glue now. They want you fed up, they want you to leave.

Nobody forced to go to collab zone is giving 100%. Many of our jobs don’t require you to collaborate with anyone in your office . The ones you need to interact with are far away so phone email and Q messaging as well as online meetings are the go to tools. That spiel from leadership but you can talk to people and find out what they do, it’s so interesting! What a load of b.s. morale has tanked and leadership in some orgs admitted forcing to cz wasn’t executed well and will have to be worked out. In the meantime the employee is uncomfortable and inconvenienced. Wake up call- they don’t care. They prefer you to quit.
