Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

TechDev rumors

Just curious if anyone has any knowledge of what might be planned for the remaining employee’s in Tech-Dev? I have heard rumors of being pushed to Accenture, in the same manner as the employee’s that were pushed to IBM a couple months ago. I am not naive to the fact that for most of us, we have a target on our backs. Just curious as to the timing, it is hard to make any life plans when trying to raise a family while working under the uncertainty of AT&T.

Job security at Tech M LOL....Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...…...Everyone I have worked with from Tech M in Testing the past two years are no longer with Tech M....They have a similar management style.....Plan of action after having a bad quarter is to layoff employees...IBM does the same except first they off shore the work and then layoff....Tech M does not have to off-shore as the larger majority of their employees are already off-shore.....

7 Signs You've Outsourced Too Much to IT Vendor Service Providers

  1. The company Execs have to start bringing Vendors in for internal Exec sit-downs
  2. Your drowning in Project CR's (Every change requires a CR even when a vendor miss)
  3. Project costs grossly out-weigh the benefits
  4. Key members of IT leadership team have morphed into contract jockeys and no longer technologists
  5. You have lost control over your operations and have merely become an administrative overseer
  6. No one left in-house can answer fundamental technology questions

Drum roll please...…...

  1. Company Holidays become 15 days a year instead of 5 days due to off-shore vendor partners observance

Saw a Tech M H1B labor certification notice nailed on the bulletin board on campus. This is to hire foreign workers to displace FTE and US based candidates. Where was the last time you saw an internal job ad posted anywhere? It's a rat race, find the floating ships or prepare to get off.

Which areas of Tech Dev were impacted by the Tech Mahindra outsourcing?

The folks going to TechM will probably fare worse than those going to IBM. Att is going to be vendor management now.

Don't worry @Bob in his 60's at TechM – start thinking about how you want to spend your retirement. While you have your health, you need to figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life now that your kids are grown and your job is going away. Some travel, some get fit, some volunteer, some really get into their hobbies, some take low stress PT work, some enjoy grandkids, some start a small business, etc. I keep telling my spouse you have to really start thinking about what you want to do when your career ends. If you saved over the years and have income generating investments along with having your healthcare covered, you should have a lot of options to enjoy the rest of your life outside AT&T. Take care of your loved ones and your health, that is what really matters.

I was one of the unlucky who got outsourced to Tech M today. I am in early 60s and I make a lot of money, so I expected this. I spent 37 years at T (pre-divestiture) and saw a lot of bad mgmt decisions. My kids are independent adults and I can afford to retire now but I was hoping for 2-3 more years. I will get a year's pay from TechM and will hope that they keep me for another year or two. I am a survivor. I survived many layoffs and outsourcings. I don't hate mgmt but I lost my respect for mgmt. Their dream was my dream and now they lose my loyalty. It's only business, right? Now it's personal and I have to leave earlier than I wanted. I am healthy and that is what matters most. I wish everyone (except mgmt) the best luck.

With Thad Yo-Yo being named new CEO of consumer, the rumored consumer outsourcing to Accenture (or someone else) is looking more probable as he was the one who pushed the latest IBM clusterf&*^.

I know of a Director who polished his resume in the last 2 weeks and has been applying like crazy for all available positions outside of Techdev. According to him the announcement will be made after the iphone release; so expect around sept 15. And as usual you are not eligible to apply to AT&T internal jobs after the announcement is made.
