Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why company agree to 5 yr deal for D3?

If the 2020 plan is to eliminate so many more jobs, why is AT&T ok with a 5 year contract for the district 3 union workers?

“make sure D4 doesn’t wait to walk out with D3”

D4 has proven itself to be a giant pu–y the last two contract cycles. They never wait for D3 and they never walk. They’re just the whipping boy of att lol

For false hope, and to make sure D4 doesn’t wait to walk out with D3 in a few years, should we all last that long.

The better question is why would the union agree to a five year contract? The company got what they wanted and wants a longer time period until they have to worry about negotiating a new contract.

"And looks like the costs of healthcare are frozen, not increasing during life of contract."

Not so. The employee cost is capped at 29%. So if the cost of the policy goes up $100 the increased cost to an employee is $29. You will liking be paying more in gross dollars but not as a % of the total cost.

No one has seen the details so frankly it’s too early to say whether it’s a good or bad contract. Besides , it’s subjective. If you’re a wire tech , it’s probably bad. If you’re core, it’s probably at least status quo. On the surface , a 13 percent increase over 5 years at least keeps them slightly above expected rate of inflation at about 9 to 10 percent over 5 years. And looks like the costs of healthcare are frozen, not increasing during life of contract. So overall , it looks good enough.

Being locked in a BAD Contract for 5yrs is not a good thing. The Company has been working on separating the Districts for over 10yrs as one of their long term goals. Looking back, delaying Contract Settlements has been a key strategy to gain the wanted separation periods. CWA fell right into their hands. Now as some of the Rank and File ask to have CWA have all the District Contracts expire at the same time to leverage a National Work Stoppage can never happen. If we think 2019 has been a bad year for Craft, it’s been worse for low level a Management. If you want to keep your finger on the direction of the Company, watch how the low level Managers are reassigned or dismissed. For some Craft, that’ll be reason to scream out for glee, Craft will be next. Watch how Real Estate is removing and selling long time Company work locations. Having Janitorial Services performed twice a week rather every day. Watch how the Company starts to Contract all work titles and possibly shrink the 40hr a week Worker to a below 32hr a week Worker. Just think, no health benefits required for a part time worker, how much money will the Company save. Point is, the Union needs to think two Contract Period ahead not just the current one in place. The is more doom and gloom for AT&T Employees. All Employees Craft and low level Management.

2020 project was supposed to be for POTS. Supposedly, Sonet turn down has been pushed out to 2028. Got an email/news flash about it last year but haven't seen anything else since.

The company was strategic. Doesn’t want district 4 and district 3 contracts to expire at same time. It’s more of a win for the company than the union.

They can still lay people off. The contract will benefit those that remain, but a five year contract doesn’t mean jobs are secure for five years.
