Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Donavan avoiding the the mess about to hit

Class action suits are starting to pile up. All of sudden they change DTV Now to AT&T TV Now . Then they announce they will stop compensating AR's for AT&T TV Now activations. Something tells me he's leaving before the Sh–s the fan. Golden parachute?

Donovan wasn't fired. He quit abruptly when he found out definitively that Stankey was going to be the king's beloved son not him. Firings are planned better than his departure. It's not like he was a prem tech with p–n on his tablet. When you decide you need to remove a prince from the court it is a very considered move. It isn't done on a whim. Now if you are a prince that wants to be the king but your hopes have been dashed. Well, that's different.

Fish rots from the head down. Time to plan how to bail from the sinking ship folks, while there isn’t too much panic yet. Or you can ride thisTitanic all the way down to the foggy ocean bottom. If you are surplused, count that as a blessing, take the money and start anew in a better company. Lots of them exists outside of Telecom industry.

Good point...but not all execs are always simple-minded “yes men,” though they may be. The point is that their leadership styles and their strategic ideas may be similar to that of the execs who came before them. This can be a good thing when the company is on sound footing, not when it’s recently made big changes that are not beginning to pay off so well. In this situation, another course of action is needed.
All industries change. In order for businesses to survive, a certain degree of dynamic thinking is essential, especially when having financial issues, the industry is evolving and morale is flagging. In these situations, with the current pool of internal talent it appears most believe can only deliver more of the same, it's a clear cue to look outside of the company. Hiring an outsider with a fresh perspective or experience addressing the company’s main challenges can only help us grow.

The company really needs to look externally for a replacement.....The execs who have been around and worked their way up the ranks are not always necessarily qualified for a high-level executive position or have the necessary experience to thrive in such a role. The company has grown and changed substantially. They really need to look for someone who is skilled in taking the organization to scale. Hiring externally, gives greater freedom to evaluate candidates who’ve already succeeded in similar positions at companies of similar sizes going through major changes and major challenges....it is sometimes good to "clean house "and get rid of the "yes" men or woman.... .

He was fired so a white woman could take over the position. Because for some reason white women are considered more diverse than actual minorities, and the company wants to appear diverse without being diverse at the top.

Apparently announcing the cloud deal with Microsoft and IBM back to back and without clear guidance or governance put him in the hot seat

Between my Corporate father's career, and my own, I have seen or heard more than a few demigods be made to walk the plank.

At the level of Donovan, a typical retirement is rumored for months and the official notice goes out at least 3 months in advance with a plethora of platitudes from the CEO along with wording about how "X will spend their remaining time assisting the Transition team, yada, yada".

To say you are leaving in 5 weeks is code-speak for "I'm getting canned".

As for the reasons - I will leave that to you speculators.

When they announce the JD replacement, everybody should play dumb. Forget everything that you’ve worked on, forget coming into a collaboration zone, forget everything. Then when Lori Lee is appointed, start everything over differently and just pretend JD wasn’t trying to fire us all and replace us with a generic hard drive that could be programmed from overseas to complain about horrible commutes, cubemates and collaborating.
