We read all the posts from the extreme left or right. This is Labor Day Weekend, let’s honor and remember all in the Labor Force, Craft and Managers. We’re all trying to make a living, the fight isn’t with each other, it’s with the Corporate Direction forced Management Style. We as people need to set aside the differences and appreciate our ability to have empathy for another Human Being struggling to get by. I appreciate all Poster’s and folks sharing ideas. @10NyenBO-1ley - sorry you were hurt doing the job. I hope you reported it or at the least filled out a short form. If you didn’t, do because if it gives you trouble in the future, you have the documentation that threads it back to the date. Also it doesn’t give the Company an opportunity to deny benefits because of no documentation. You also avoid accusations of trying to conceal the injury. Also, I feel I need to mention if it’s late after dusk, if the pole and area you have to climb isn’t illuminated sufficiently you are not required to climb due to safety concerns. And be aware the bad management can try to turn it on you for putting yourself in an unsafe situation due to darkness of the climbing area. Please don’t take these comments wrong, I support you and know you’re trying to do your job the best you can. I’m the old timer you refer to in your post. Splicer for 18yrs. It’s funny how a post of goodwill turns into nothing but complaints. You individuals act as if you didn’t know weekends were part of the work requirements. To berate someone that works in an office environment only because of AC is asinine. You get paid top dollar to do your job. You should be happy it NOOOO, you still complain like spoiled children. You get paid for doing as little as possible. Be quiet already. Go out, do you job, get paid. Try to salvage your holiday weekend as best you can you bitter person you.
I just could laugh with this thread. It is soooo easy to say forget about work and enjoy the long weekend for a 9-5 “office” joker. At this time and at ANY time you want to pick, there’s someone working for this company, not able to enjoy any free weekend or holiday, family and friends. Putting themselves into the outdoors,( not in a/c all day like you probably) and risking themselves. And yes, they are being paid for, as you are being paid for your 9-5 only “office work”.

Weekend? What's that? We are FORCED six days a week, every week. And our manager will not be joining us, only a 'duty manager' who doesn't actually come out and do anything on weekends.
AT&T PremTech working conditions are a perfect example of what is wrong with this country today. Even with a union, nothing improves for PremTechs.
Enjoy your holiday old guard. Unless things change in this country, workers with good benefits and pay with regular work hours are a dying breed in our modern 'gig' economy. Also known as the 'sharing economy' - where the peasants get to share their crumbs with one another.
@10NyenBO-1fxo - weak argument. Why be insubordinate then get fired and lose a good job? You wouldn’t do it. The job is too important to you and your family. Why would you expect a 1st level Manager to sacrifice their employment for folks like yourself that are self centered and ungrateful. Supervisor takes a stand and gets fired, you will just laugh and say that’s what he gets. Maybe your Supervisor gives you exactly what you give him. Enjoy the long weekend unless you’re forced.
@10NyenBO-1rdj - sounds like you are very unhappy. Many of the Field Supervisors come from the job title they manage. They’ve done their time. Been forced through storms and disasters. If anyone has done the job, they never forget. If you are forced so is your Supervisor. He’ll be in the office when you arrive for your shift and will hopefully be there when you return. Where you’ll be getting paid, and making Holiday Pay on Monday, he’ll be working for free. I’m sure that does not concern you because you have so much anger consuming you. He is responsible for you returning safe and angry like you started your day. Think back when you had your 4 day hiatus, sipping your beers and laughing and joking, he was forced to work too. You do have options if being forced angers you so much. You can quit.
Efff that... and efff T management. Most of you forgot where you started and how it feels to be out in the field...When you are drinking your cold beers remember that a tech was FORCED to work on the holiday...

@10NyenBO-hrz - Thank you understanding the point I was making. To discuss solutions to the easily identified problems, my thought is there must be a cap or ceiling regarding profits. There must be defined rules on how much CEO’s and Board Members can make. The millions of dollars they vote for themselves are obscene. If nobody was paying attention, they are the 1% that control our Country. And while I’m at it, re-evaluating how our Politicians come to office. No groups should control our politicians. We as a Country need to move forward together, not as separate factions that encourages the ever widening divide of our people. Have a well earned Holiday.
Well said. Corporate greed is causing great strife in our country's work forces. From the push to decrease wages and the continual skyrocketing healthcare costs this greed has an almost death grip on emlpoyees and managers in all fields of work. I'm not sure what the solution will be. Unions are trying to fight it, but it's honestly bigger than them. I don't know if the government could or would fight it. One thing for sure, it doesn't seem as though self policing of the issue will happen. Enjoy the break!
