Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CWA D3 - The ULP Strike is Over. Return to work today (Wednesday, 08/28/2019 at 1PM EST.

CWA has notified AT&T management that we are ending the unfair labor practice strike and have agreed to return to work. The strike is over, effective immediately. Bargaining unit employees at AT&T Southeast, Utility Operations, and AT&T Billing are expected to return to work at 1:00 P.M. ET/12:00 P.M CT today, Wednesday August 28. Even if in the middle of their tour, employees should return to work at 1:00 P.M. ET/12:00 P.M. CT today.

District 3 leadership and the bargaining team appreciate the spirit and solidarity shown by your protest against the company's unfair labor practices over the last 4 days. The company saw how seriously you and your members took the protest and that you would not stop until they bargained with us in good faith. Your actions will never be forgotten by us or by your brothers and sisters across the country.

4) To allow the company to lay off employees with no regard for seniority and to instead utilize attendance and performance metrics

I do like this, been layed off twice, lot of dead weight at the company, that would only be fair

@tvg, actually, I didn’t to any of your work...physical or otherwise. Basically sat around bored for the most part. All your work is still here waiting for you. I would have preferred to get some hands-on experience, but whatever. I did get free lunches while you were shaking your fist at the powers that be. Not a bad trade-off.

Union = Just like a bunch of little kids. Sometimes you gotta let them out in the backyard to scream and play so they can blow off steam and energy, but that’s all it really accomplishes.

I see a lot of managers are posting about the strike. They are upset because they had to do actual physical work instead of attend meetings, conference calls, and memorizing the company's talking points and slogan of the month. Don't worry, the impression your rear ends made in your desk chairs are still there. You may now resume your usual useless activities, pontification, and navel-gazing. We're back to take care of business now.

I smell conspiracy we go on a weak a$$ strike no one getting paid and within one day they had a hand shake deal....ummmm wut???! And it goes from 10am to 1pm...did the union do this to save the company money so they could sway them to bargain and sign....so i got almost 3 days of no pay for what?

Just sitting here wondering how many of the union employees will wait until 12:55pm to call in and ask to take PTO time or unpaid time for the rest of the day knowing full well that work is already assigned to them. Typical low-class union employee c-ap.

Very few if any will come back before 1pm. That’s a given. I’m positive most of this was worked out prior to the ULP walkout. The strike was more about saving facing for the CWA and allowing the company the financial relief of not paying 22,000 workers for 5 days (Yes, many of them are scheduled on Sat and Sunday) which probably offset some concession on the company’s part to the CWA. I doubt the coming TA will look much different than district 4’s. All politics and money as usual.

@wmp, Sorry, your steward lied to you. The company isn’t paying back pay while you were not at work. No sane company just gives away free money....not if they want to stay in business.

Weakest most ridiculous strike in history. My co workers were told last Saturday the strike would end on Wednesday. In other words, before they got on a plane and flew into Charlotte NC, they were told the strike was just until Wednesday. So if they knew it would be over with today, why did they send the non Union employees to cover this “so called” strike? What a bunch of BS.

@udj. The strike is over. It says effective immediately unless the union's definition is different than the dictionary's.

@dee

It’s best to not return until the end of the strike. There are a lot of overzealous people in the union that like to bully and intimidate their fellow employees by calling them scabs and posting their pictures all over. Some of the local union leadership even promote this practice. It amazes me how the company lets employees get away with this nonsense because they would most likely be terminated for creating a hostile work environment if not for the union.

My stuart told me that they would make at&t pay us back pay for when we were on strike before they would agree to end the strike so did that happen?

If the strike is over immediately, why wait until 1pm to go back to work?

Let’s be honest folks, everyone knew this ULP strike was ending Wednesday. It was in the original plan. This strike was all for show. It didn’t scare the company. It didn’t cause Donovan to retire. Didn’t even impact customers all that much. And there is no agreement yet. However, it did inconvenience a bunch of people, craft and managers alike. It also saved the company about $28 million in unpaid wages. Probably get that back as a ‘signing bonus’ later. So who really benefitted here? All the players at the table, that’s who. Company execs and Union leadership alike.
