Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What could be the outcome of this strike?

I would like to get some views on what can we expect to be achieved by this strike, realistically? Will it change anything, at least short term? Also, are the D3 folks in danger of being faced with some form of retaliation from the company later on?

If your manager retaliates give him a knuckle sandwich.

Stop your whining and take it to the streets. The longer and harder the better. Nothing comes for free.

The strike is worthless. Management has it covered. You're just giving management more reason to get rid of you. Enjoy your strike pay!

This strike affects nothing. Bet that the union higher ups negotiated this strike with the company long ago as part of initial discussions. As was the last one I saw.

Technically the company could lock out workers but would not do that because they can get unemployment benefits and then have a right to their jobs back after its resolved. Plus it would be really bad PR. Even AT&T isn’t that stupid.

We should except nothing less than guaranteed jobs next 4 years!! If they laid off workers they have to pay the laid off workers they’re share or the tax cut windfall thay got for not firing workers!!!!

In the short term it costs us workers a few days pay and saved T millions. The U management team gets some cred for making it look like they are fighting for us. The customers aren't put out too much, and the folks who hate T still won't blink at this.

A lockout means you’re eligible for unemployment benefits.

Some managers do hold a grudge and may retaliate. My manager has to cancel his vacation and climb a pole. Needless to say he’ll probably be a little p-ss-d at us.

We want the company to recognize we need a work life balance , flexibility in personal time and number one issue is job security aka layoffs.

Company could lock us out. There’s always that risk although unlikely because the company knows these contractors don’t do a good job and it costs too much to train new employees. Contractor work is quick and dirty. No quality control and no real accountability. Also I don’t believe the company can lock us out legally during a ULP strike which this is. There’s laws they have to abide by. Otherwise , no it’s all part of the game. The company won’t go after anyone for striking unless they did something blatantly wrong or illegal. We’re hoping the company recognizes they still need us despite all the recent automation with sdn they’ve achieved. At end of day, it’s about relationships with business and consumer customer. Many times I’m told by customers I saved their account and they’d have gone somewhere else if it weren’t for the tech. Sales tends to piss a customer off and we go in and clean the mess up and make them happy again.
