Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Strike time

So hearing this will all end Weds evening and everyone will be back to work on Thursday in order to get holiday pay and to keep insurance benefits from expiring.

Can another walkout occur once everyone returns?

@1yjx: good info. so if issue #1 is technically resolved(bargaining has resumed) will the charge still be reviewed and can we still stay out over it? Can all of D3 stay out for the issue with the 3 locals in FL?...not sure about #2.

@1wil

August 23, 2019 5:07pm CWA has filed >charges with the National Labor Relations >Board (NLRB), alleging that AT&T has >committed three (3) different unfair labor >practices.

1) Bargaining in bad faith with the Union - >Failure to provide a bargaining >representative who has the authority to >make decisions, negotiate with the Union, >or reach an agreement
2) Overturning an established past >practice with regards to the bargain >process and compensation for employees >who serve on the bargaining team

In addition, separate unfair labor practice >charges have been filed over AT&T's >suspending employees, and threatening >others with discipline, for participating in >protected concerted activities by wearing >CWA memorabilia. Three CWA Locals in >Florida initiated an unfair labor practice >strike over these unfair labor practices on >August 22

"Would be a shame if there were massive fiber cuts when everyone was on strike"'. This is EXACTLY the kind of mentality that I detest, I would NEVER EVER condone this kind of stupidity. I wouldn't turn you in for such stupidity but I sure the hell wouldn't take the fall for you either. id–t.

@1fpz, lack of good faith bargaining is what our group was told we were striking for, nothing in addition to that

@yfk You haven’t been keeping up. The useless negotiation team wasn’t the only complaint CWA filed. Meeting 1 compliant out of several doesn’t settle the ULP charge.

The text message blast that went out to all CWA employees last week clearly indicated that Wed 8/28 at 10:00pm would be the end of the ULP work stoppage. No reason to believe anything has changed.

Looks like it will all be over tonight or tomorrow, maybe by Thursday all this will be behind us.

If they are back at the table the ulp charge for bad faith bargaining should be null and workers should be back on the job, one would think.

The strike can end Wednesday or it can continue longer until AT&T rectifies all the ULP complaints formally filed.

pretty sad when most people passing by our picket line said that AT&T treats them unfair too

The company can NEVER hire permanent replacements!!!!! Don’t be ignorant.

Yes they can still walk but it is considered an economic strike versus a ULP strike. The main difference is the company cannot permanently replace striking workers during a ULP.

ULP strikes cannot be intermittent and patterned or the company can hire permanent replacements. The NLRB would have to rule whether a second strike violates that and it would be a really high stakes game of chicken so I doubt either side would take it that far.

I just talked to my local union who said it has NOT been determined when the strike will end. Day by day folks!

If it is already planned they will go off strike on Wednesday, then it’s all just been a Union game. A ULP strike means there are unfair labor practices going on, and until that situation changes, they should still be on strike or it will all be in vain.

There are some differences between ulp specific strikes and in general contract strikes. Some of that involves how often you can walk out. I'm sure someone with more detailed knowledge will post.
