I know that our position has slowly taken work away from core techs over the years and because of this many of you have great disdain for us. Remember this is something we have no control over. It seems that the company is really trying to strip core in this contract. I’m hopeful this strike will have the unintended effect of bringing unity between core and those currently in the addendum. A better contract for all our brothers and sisters!

thought one of the strike disputes for D3 is that corporate wants to eliminate Core techs and force the into Wire techs but still do Core work

Thanks for the reply. It blows my mind that the union ever agreed to that ! Must have some really stupid leadership at CWA these days. I’m pro union but anti-dumb–s CWA leaders lol

@1jni,for years, ALL work from the serving terminal inwards towards the customer(house or business) was performed by wage scale 30 Service Techs. Hanging dropwire, placing ONIs, Jacks, inside wiring, and DSL modems, etc. The U management team agreed with T to bring in lower waged Wire Techs to perform the installation and maintenance of Uverse services. The U mamagent team got more union dues out if the deal but this shift of work has resulted in the surplus of Service Techs throughout the district. That's why a lot of STs don't like WTs or the U management team for selling them out.
Will someone explain to us non-techs how the wire tech position came to be and why they are hated by their own CWA peers so much ? Seems unfair but I don’t have the facts.
They’re moving wire tech work to ST,FT, and DT. Wire techs need to stand up, you pay union dues too.

Let's get rid of the out sourcing and excessive contractor dependencies. Bring it all in house from now on. When they start outsourcing management that will be the end of American Telephone and Telegraph and we will become Out Sourced Telephone and Telegraph.
Yes the U management should have never agreed to represent Wire Techs at the expense of taking work away from Service Techs. It's hard to justify standing up for Wire Techs when the U management greased it up and held the ST's tail for T. That being said, the WTs had no clue of the hornet's nest they walked into, can't blame them. The closest resolve is to bring the WT up to ST pay, but that still doesn't make it right for the ST's who transeferred out(many to OPT, who are now being surplused) or quit because they saw their work being given away to WT'S. It's a nasty can of worms the U management agreed to be opened. Best luck to all!
