Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

From A Manager...

I just want to thank the CWA for standing up for everyone’s rights. I was in the Union for 15 years & my heart is still there in spirit. What you guys fight for helps us all. My kids are grown so I’ll gladly work these 12 hour shifts without extra pay because I know you all are out there doing this with no pay at all (except for the union pay which isn’t much). Just know that not all management is against you. We’re in the same sh*tty, sinking ship, getting hit with surpluses & impossible metrics too. Every manager I’ve spoken with since Sunday supports you & respects what you do. Stand strong & stand proud. We support you & we support the CWA!!

I’m a tech with 25 years. First , I want to say thank you to many of the first and even some of the second level managers at the company. The majority of you support us techs in spirit , even if you cannot in reality. Most of us techs , the mature ones anyway, understand that you managers are between a rock and a hard place. You can be fired at the drop of the hat if you don’t “b-form” or do any of the myriad of id–tic things you are asked to do by execs and bean counters who never came up thru operations and just have no clue about what we do deal with at the ground level. They don’t want to know. Such as the CEO himself. IMany of you were once techs yourselves and you get it. To my brothers and sisters that are lashing out at first and second level managers , stop it. They are not the enemy. They are just trying to feed their family and keep their jobs like the rest of us. Your anger should be directed at the board of directors , the CEO , and the VP yes men who see the rest of us , first and second level managers included, as nothing but numbers and a cost burden. It’s not personal for them. It’s all about the bottom line and the shareholders. So make them feel it in the only place that counts. The bottom line and Wall Street. Behave maturely. Don’t do anything illegal but stand together. Quit lashing out at each other.

Best of luck guys! We are pulling for you. That’s why you see us wave as we pass the picket lines. Try not to intimidate and scare the ladies as they pass through. Many of them were quite nervous this morning. Also know that we are not allowed to interact with you guys, but we do support you. We have to be there or lose our jobs if we don’t show up.

Why would we do that? We didn’t see you calling out sick when 10k of us got surplused this year. Stop playing the victim and fight for a good contract, we want you to get a good wage but that is up to your union leadership to use that money you gave them to hire professional negotiators and bust balls. 99 percent of Managers don’t sit at the negotiations table ever. We don’t have a say in things like that, we are employed at will and can be fired with very little cause. You are protected already by your contract and tons of rules, you should have banded all the districts together and all of you walked when the last contract expired. Make your union leadership accountable for the dues you pay them for.
