Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This Bothers Me...

I accept that this article is published in the New York Post and not the New York Times, but reality comes in all flavors -

The Cliff Notes version is that HBO Stankey is in over his head and does not understand the fluid lunacy of creative organizations.

Screaming? Yelling? Threatening careers?

That works in getting desperate middle class workers to hang more drops or crank out more code, but creative thinkers and artistic people are a strange kind of human - they will just pick up and leave you.

The article touches on the exodus of key talent from HBO and Warner.

this quote is a damming one for ATT not that they will care. Stankey replied that there were no women on his team because there is “no bench strength” at WarnerMedia, this person said. The “dismissive answer” did not take into account top execs, including Bernadette Aulestia, the global distribution chief; Eve Konstan, the general counsel; and Marisa Famulare, the chief financial officer, the source said. It also didn’t account for Turner ad sales veteran Donna Speciale, who left the company earlier this month — and who was “frustrated” by the male-dominated culture there, sources told The Post." I chuckle when they talk about diversity etc. Most time when people say that they are only saying it for public consumption. there are some token minorities and women in some areas but for the most part these companies dont give a rats ... about so called diversity and the diversity they push is more about s-x and skin color/ethincity not thought if reports by the "insiders" are true about how stinky responded to questions. "Vu vill do as I say, I am in charge" who the >>> does he think he is? a company executive? lol, we all know companies are dictatorships while you are employed. Notice the results of ATT 's last employee survey have not been made public? as a contingency employee though, the strike in SE is a lousy idea. the company will win, everyone else include the customers who will flee, will loose. get real CWA members, your power to hurt the company is declining and you will only end up hurting the people who depend on your pay and the customers. “He doesn’t understand that the value of HBO is linked to its people,” a former employee noted, citing an internal meeting in March in which the exec offended the division’s women staffers.

That right there is why all divisions are failing. They buy companies and gut them and expect things to just magically run fine with less employees, employees that don't care anymore because they know more layoffs are coming and cheap outsourced contractors that have no skin in the game.

If past is prologue, Stankey and his team will just tinker for a while, and then outsource the whole thing to India. Maybe some talent from Bollywood can right the ship.
