Any new info from L4+ meeting on lay-off outsource. What will now till end of year bring? One sixth ATO to IBM leaves others to remain untouched?

2 posts earlier.....you are wrong about Tech Dev Architecture staying with AT&T. Many of the top IT Solution Architects/Enterprise Architects are heading to IBM. The problem is that since they moved Architecture to "value streams", no one knows who they are or where they worked. Very poor execution on T part.

Well, it is probably overly optimistic but the plan I've seen is within 9 months. They are also bringing in a lot of cisco ucs gear to replace all the existing vmware infrastructure projected to be in place by 2020 (so 3 months) based on an existing architecture using TSM from day 1, with year 1 focus on migrating existing enterprise cloud and bare metal to it within 2 years.

Realistic or not those will be benchmarks for the people moved to IBM

That will probably be a 2 -3 year process.

One of the first projects already planned in to replace netbackup with TSM

Tech Dev The employees that are outsourced to IBM, will get to stay about 2 or 3 years with IBM before they are laid off because IBM do not have a NetBackup Group, therefore they will need the employees if not all most of them. Surely IBM wouldn’t let employees go that are experts within NetBackup.

People wanting to stay with AT&T will sign a new employee contract (at will employment). No severance packages, no benefits, pension is gone.

Everyone will be 1099 workers. No OT. Everyone will use Chrome Books to save cost. As a further cost saving measure and to expand on the IBM agreement all Desktops will be replaced with Dumb Terminals, Wyse 50 or VT-100 and will log into IBM 370 Mainframes.

To improve development time and cost to market the new approved language is PASCAL. COBAL will be allowed with a L5 Approved TSS

We were told last week changes are coming very soon, probably after the L4+ meeting in NJ. I expect notices to go out in Sep with people off the att books by 11/1. Dates may be off but movement activity is a certainty.

"huh? PMs are a dime a dozen. Why does T want to keep overpaid PMs? Heck, half the PMs are tech folks that couldn't to tech. So T tried to make them PMs "

Your correct in one sense. T has way too many people in the "project manager" title. And many arrived there by default, just kind of fell into whatever that role is. But they are not true project managers that are trained and certified in the profession. And it is a profession. 75% of these folks could probably not pass the PMP exam.

There is a thread titled “Tech Dev Mtg moved to 8/16. 8/14, L4 and up only” but nothing about that meeting was ever posted. There were a couple comments about an upcoming meeting in Middletown, I think it was mentioned that is scheduled for next week.

Generally speaking, aside from the D3 / D4 related topics, the amount of activity on this board has decreased. Number of hits on posts is less than what I saw earlier in the year. Not sure if everyone has become desensitized, info is not readily available, or those that were most active are no longer with us.

You guys haven't seen anything. Just wait until you see what TM is about to do! You think IBM and MS did some damage...

All project managers will be resourced to Asia or fired. Wf2020 will need a large reduction in expenditure as per upper management. You will not retire at AT&T, get out.

To @10GnyG4G-rsn - At least Legacy T had enough sense to keep the majority of it's technical workforce and system SME's intact and not outsource these to IBM etc. who treats employees as a commodity only to be off-shored down the road along with the talent and knowledgebase...….

“overall whatever is left of ATO will be a bunch of talking heads responsible for trying to keep IBM in line. ” These type of statements are really a bad testament to what our employees actually know. Tech Dev/Ops is only a small portion of ATO. You do realize that the AT&T “Network” is maintained by ATO....correct?

Um.

Nobody is going to Microsoft unless they got lucky enough to get hired there the old fashioned way.

(some) Project managers are going to IBM, as are several hundred applications that are not network centric apps - with those apps go entire stacks of people that supported them from server operations to project managers and directors and the lower level architecture/design folks that planned the app infrastructure. Higher level architecture/design (e.g. strategy) folks are staying behind with AT&T.

But yeah, a lot of the roles they were pushing via WF2020 are going to IBM. At least 20=30% of those employees will be getting "resource actioned" around September of next year would be my guess and the ones left standing will be paid less to do 50% more work.

A large portion of the remaining tech dev people are going under Arroyo to support sales more directly in those business units so they can claim higher proportion of agile methodology. That will be effective on 9/1 concurrent with the bodies going to IBM.

Beyond that, nothing has yet been announced but I'm thinking I wouldn't want to be in that portion of tech dev still standing.

Tech Dev is dead, Tech Ops is dead, Tech Arch is dead, overall whatever is left of ATO will be a bunch of talking heads responsible for trying to keep IBM in line. All the actual operation of the business will end up getting done by employees of a cloud provider or contractors for Accenture, IBM or Tech Mahindra (I'm not sure where Amdocs landed overall, I think some of their stuff is going to IBM too).

I also wouldn't want to be in the Flex Force as I expect that type of work will end up going to IBM and Tech Mahindra.

I thought the rumor with Tech Dev was all the jobs that they were promoting for being “2020” jobs were all going to IBM and Microsoft. T wants to offload every employee it has and just contract out every aspect of the company. The only people that will be left will be project managers. Just the same way Legacy T was before they went bankrupt and got bought out by, hmmm, who do you think???!!!!
