Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Are more layoffs coming by the end of the year?

This is just my logic and my hunch, but as this was a pretty turbulent year at Vz, I tend to think that they will want to sum up all that they’ve been doing to cut costs and arrive in the new year with a lesser workforce. Is that something that could really unfold ( I’m talking about a mass wave of layoffs), or is this just in my head?

Early Q1 layoffs are generally rare because they're still hammering out the annual budget and setting priorities for the year. Look for late Q1 early Q2 cuts due to the budget not lining up with COPS budgets. Generally the nastier cuts are the Q3 chops where they're been stock of the business at the halfway point through the budget year and reassessed spending levels. Then they cascade down the budget reductions and lower management has to figure out how to make the numbers they've been given. Finally Q4 cuts are when they're doing their year end assessment of the budget and making panic cuts.

Basically there's a cut for every season and you can get the shoulder tap at any time no matter how valuable you actually are.

Keep your head down and your skills up. Milk all the training you can because when it's your time you need to be ready for it.

Agreed....offers almost never come out q1 for craft....and some places are too busy during the summer so it’s almost always q4 off payroll.....they have no incentive to pay for all of your vacation for next year....last 2 offers I remember getting was off payroll in Oct-December .....it sounds like many techs downstate/nyc don’t sound that busy....but upstate in Fios we are busy enough....nobody sitting around....I remember around 8 years ago they offered surplus craft the option of moving upstate and gave people like $25k if they would relocate upstate (Buffalo, syracuse etc) ....a few people took them up on their offer...not sure if they will ever try that again or not...we shall soon see....I feel fairly certain something’s coming in q4....they gotta get to their $10bln in savings somehow....they still have $6bln to go

@10Gn3u1g-1iqe.....I can’t see waiting until the 1st quarter. That’s a lot of unnecessary vacation and sick time for associates.
Your thoughts...

Verizon to cut $10B by 2021 and current savings realized $4B. I see EISP and RIFs (1Q 2020) in the future.

I wouldn't be totally surprised

If the company is smart, they will look at the $150-$450k salary range.

Alot of dead wood there
