I would recommend you quit
I make 100k on 40 hours a week... who needs OT? d3-d4-d6-d9 contracts are so limiting...
If its getting late and you need to finish tomorrow, return for no access. The dip shot managers are too busy with their fing up the ace to know anything anyway. Don’t sweat it.
Why would you “work” all that OT to finally gift it to the government to maintain folks that never have worked? And you know that most of that excessive OT is a lie. Better do real work on regular hours, stop and go get back your life.
For all of you desperate for OT, I’m raffling my “On-call”. But you have to take it for the rest of your years 🤔 😁
Working is a such a subjective term when used at the phone company. When I was a strapping young man, fresh out of the USMC, in the early 90's and working as a service tech, I decided to work all the OT I could over a two week pay period (it was available if you wanted it). BUT, I really worked it. It sure didn't even come close to 100 hrs a week. more like 65-70. Then one of older guys finally let me in on the secret.....sit on your a$$ all day, nap or whatever, and actually start working at 5pm. That wasn't for my style. I couldn't bring myself to do it. Yeah, we had guys making over 100K back then but seeing where they are now (several divorced, many deceased).....today, I'm comfortable with the way I worked. Not judging. Each person knows what they can live with. One thing I am certain of however, is working a buttload of OT doesn't make one more of a man or mean you are/were a better tech than anyone else.
I wish my department was allowed overtime. Anything over 40 hours needs an explanation and a coaching.
Is all of this work a result of the cutbacks or is some of this seasonal. Typically we see order activity go up with people moving, school, etc. I know in my area that work has been down overall. Visited a work center awhile ago and some of the techs were commenting about the lack of OT.
Come over to the prem side, youll get all the force OT youll ever want.. for the guy that said he retired on OT, prems dont have the 49hr rule as core does.
@10C6WKVv-1qlx I too wish I could work some OT. So far this year for me....4 hours worth. I have to say I'm a little confused by these folks with all this work they have. I'm in the SE and every tech I talk to, ST, ET,DT, FT says they don't have enough work to get through the day.
i have not had 14 hours of OT in the last 3 years... combined. must be nice to get a little extra.
I thought part of the historical success of the union movement was the establishment of the 40 hour work week? Something don’t seem right.
i dont mind 14 hours, i just don't like the force 6 days. I would much rather work 54 hours in 5 days and still get two days off.
@swe- so you worked 14 hours a day 7 days a week? I mean...seriously dude..that’s just a straight lie, just like the poster before me said. And if you’re retired living the dream- why ON EARTH are you trolling this site, do something with all that $$ you made in OT.
Work the OT and build up your strike fund. You might need it. If you don’t need it, build up a nest egg to quit if you don’t want to do it anymore. In these uncertain times it’s not a bad thing to be building up a nest egg.
@swe You’re preaching to a bunch of entitled whiners. I loved OT and banked it to become debt free and toss the extra money into retirement. I’m in a position now where I don’t get anywhere near the OT I used to. If I did I might be able to retire at 50 versus the projected 55.
Fûkk the OT and the OC.... 40 hrs/week is enough and you should live by that... not depending on any OT or extra work.
AT&T, get rid of this OT OC madness!!!!!!! People need time to live with their families in the same way “chair” managers do!!!!!!
@swe - No you didn't.
The hours Prems work at this company week after week would be outright ILLEGAL in most countries in this world. Even in South Korea and Japan, two nations notorious for long work hours, they passed maximum work hour limits recently.
I guess the moral of my story is that if you don't have a government that protects its workers or a union to fight equally for ALL its workers, the workers will be abused by their employer.
AT&T labor conditions don't seem to have evolved much since the 19th century. Unless you're a core represented worker going home at 430 five days a week that is.
Once again, thanks for NOTHING CWA!
Its the company way of forcing you to stay out on the field until the work load is cleared. The company wont “schedule” any overtime In your schedule, they will just give you job after job with the excuse that you have not hit your 14hr OT weekly cap.
The union allows this even thou it has been brought to their attention that the techs are forced to work 3-4 hrs of OT daily without it being scheduled.
I worked many 100hr weeks.
The only 40 hr weeks were when I was on Vaca.
Average was 60 hrs.
Retired at 55. 37 years in.
You’re thinking about this wrong.
Cap sounds like they want to allow no more than 14 hours of OT, not force OT. What am I missing?
