Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Q3 business town hall

Anonymous non AT&T link to post questions for Thaddeus AT&T business town hall on Wed 8/21 (link is on surveymonkey because if we can do something on another person's cost, we will).

Am sure he won't answer your question unless you ask a book club question but is still a good way to take out aggravation.

sample questions:
if you care about employees, why did we outsource FirstNet build out?
What's your favorite company to outsource people to?
How many people do you have to layoff to get a good bonus?

3 questions answered and of course none that anyone reading the news would ask. First two seemed planted (if not the third)...on Alien Vault. With everything going on, who would be so concerned about Alien Vault? Third one they picked was about re-org some of Tech Dev under sales so they could claim "agile development" was getting solutions out in "record speed". The only thing going at record speed in tech dev these days are reorgs and outsourcing.

@eot, seems like a plausible plan and if enough furloughs happen in the coming months, those itching to make the eventual jump (if a Severance Pkg happens) will gladly take it!

I doubt it would be company wide, any previous “furloughs” would be already cherry picked departments they’ve been anxious to close down, or move elsewhere.

I’m hanging on a little longer, the worst that happens is that you’re right, wrong or they get me first!

@lrh, it’s a wishful thought and may still happen but here is what may happen first. T has set up the scenario that it will now furlough employees to IBM, or the like, and several more waves are probably coming.
The temperature on this board, and throughout the company, will rise. People near retirement, hoping for a surplus (perhaps even UE Benefits) will throw in the towel and grab Pension Benefits early. Many employees, former WFH’s will seek work elsewhere as CZ’s are unacceptable choices and morale plummets even more.

In the final stages of the 2020 Vision, when T has furloughed all they can, when T sees that the “hanger ons” just won’t go easily, if, or when T makes a Pension lump sum too attractive to pass up....then perhaps they play their final card.

That would be the Surplus you’re hoping for and those desperate ones, or diligent in remaining, get what they want. The size of the Severance Pkg (should it happen) determines the outflow. Some have suggested 3 months, many want a Vz equivalent....that is how I see it playing out, one last offer to purge employees from T’s ranks.

I’m going to ask why there isn’t an annual additional bonus for employees when the company continues to benefit from the tax cuts

How about a voluntary management surplus offer?

Those are great questions to ask, and not receive an answer too.
