Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It really doesn’t matter what company they chose to outsource to.

I see there’s a lot of talk about how things are at IBM and what future awaits those folks that got rebadged. While that may be the logical thing to ask and a normal topic to discuss at his point, I don’t see that any good can come from that debate.
Instead of IBM it could have been any other company and we would still have this same talk and we would reach the same conclusions. The fact is that any company that AT&T choose to outsource segments of the business would have treated the rebadged employees as a temporary asset, that only benefits that company by training other, less paid workers to do their work. It really doesn’t matter how things stand at IBM,rebadgers are going to have it tough anyway.

If you're going to IBM, you want to know something about the company as T is now last years news. Yahoo Financials show IBM's 2018 Net Income declined 33% from 2015 results. That's not a fun sign. And the stock is down about 23% over the last five years.

Also go to the IBM area of this website and you'll see they are posting about their jobs being in jeopardy because of T's moving employees over (https://www.thelayoff.com/t/109TsGmr).

Be worried. On paper us some of us IBMers get a bonus, but since the payout is tied to quarterly results it's not uncommon to only get part of it, if any of it at all. I've heard some of you got 5 figure bonuses at ATT but that won't happen at IBM. If you clear $5k annually you are above average.

IBM does not give merit increases nor do the employees get bonuses. People going over to ibm should be scared. They are in no better shape than AT&T is. Make sure you get entitlements because the bean counters are not going yo look out for any of us.

For those who want to help end the out sourcing parade, get a new job asap

The difference is that IBM has the overseas slave labor ALREADY in place to take over the jobs of the outsourced employees. They can fire the people on their 366th day. And have shown time and time to do just that. Not all contracting houses that AT&T uses necessarily have that setup currently in place and behave more in the model of someone comes to them to get a job at AT&T.

Re-badging might be the same work, but for those outsourced, I think they care more about what happens to their job after a year.
