Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Bruce's email...

Any thoughts on the email Bruce sent yesterday? Seems concerning that three top level management are suddenly retiring...and once again HAH is shifted to another department. Does anyone have actual information on the behind the scenes?

It was an option. Can you live on your retirement? No. Can you live off your golden parachute? for about 3 months max. Longer term vision is needed. Sounds good for the immediate. Then go out there and apply. Will take you about 6 weeks to land a position elsewhere. Not to mention the stress you go through wondering if you will get one. If you want to leave then go cause its a sinking ship.

Section 188 of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) prohibits discrimination against applicants, employees and participants in WIA Title I-financially assisted programs and activities, and programs that are part of the One-Stop system, on the ground of age. In addition, WIA prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, color, religion, s-x, national origin, disability, political affiliation or belief, and for beneficiaries only, citizenship or participation in a WIA Title I-financially assisted program or activity. Section 188 of WIA is enforced by the Civil Rights Center/

I am sure they are told to shut their mouths and not talk about this.
Retirement or ahem... forced out. Heres a candy bar and shut your mouth, don't tell anyone.

What did they offer? If I remember 55 years of age and at least 7 years of service, was it 2 weeks severance pay for each year of service? so 14 weeks of severance pay i.e. GOLDEN PARACHUTE makes up for this?

Age Discrimination
Age discrimination involves treating an applicant or employee less favorably because of his or her age.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older. It does not protect workers under the age of 40, although some states have laws that protect younger workers from age discrimination. It is not illegal for an employer or other covered entity to favor an older worker over a younger one, even if both workers are age 40 or older.

Discrimination can occur when the victim and the person who inflicted the discrimination are both over 40.

Age Discrimination & Work Situations
The law prohibits discrimination in any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, benefits, and any other term or condition of employment.

Age Discrimination & Harassment
It is unlawful to harass a person because of his or her age.

Harassment can include, for example, offensive or derogatory remarks about a person's age. Although the law doesn't prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that aren't very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment or when it results in an adverse employment decision (such as the victim being fired or demoted).

The harasser can be the victim's supervisor, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or someone who is not an employee of the employer, such as a client or customer.

Age Discrimination & Employment Policies/Practices
An employment policy or practice that applies to everyone, regardless of age, can be illegal if it has a negative impact on applicants or employees age 40 or older and is not based on a reasonable factor other than age (RFOA).

It seems age is a big factor in several areas across Humana.

Smart executive to take the helm at HAH. The newly retired according to google sold multiple stock options worth millions in Feb. 2019. 7 million or more.... Humana is strong with business and caring for members...solid future, I think with Medicare changes on the horizon.

No actual information- but it does seem strange that they would all decide to retire at the same time. IF they are being asked to leave part of their severance would be - not to say anything and make it appear they are retiring. Guess we will see what other changes/layoffs trickle down.
