Be advised that those in construction who are declared surplus and are bumping into I&R you will be expected to do single and bonded pair installations of uverse internet service. The management will be pressing the issue from day one. Talk of performance plans for those who are unable or refuse. They will be looking at exercising the “job fitness ” clause. Since hsia installations make up a growing percentage of I&R work.

Install a dish???? Really??? No wonder your losing your job!!
Everybody is complaining and going back and forth. Just wait until you have to install a satellite with that also. It’s coming. At least the I&R techs will be paid 40 plus something an hour to do it.
But they can suspend for the three cone rule or no safety glasses at the nid. How about not “mapping”. A cup in your cab or out of route. Its ridiculous. It’s not the jobs in I&R it’s the policies that drive you nuts.
Yawn...
You folks act like bonded pair installs are hard. A robot could do them, providing the plant is in decent shape.. I know that's laughable.. Decent shape! Haaaaaa@
Amen to that brother.....
I don’t think the post is questioning anyone’s ability. I will agree there always has been and still is a different culture in each department. I’ve been a lineman, splicer, cable maintenance and finally what they like to refer to now as single dispatch. By far the current installation and repair culture is the worst. Between out by 8:20am, off the clock for lunch, pre call, post call, ladder straps top and bottom, hours per completion, repeats, dispatch efficiency the list goes on and on. The wire work is the easiest part of the job. Now they’re even talking about weighing technicians! For ladder safety limit. That’s the stuff you don’t put up with in construction.
To the OP you are not going to scare off any techs that will be bumping into I n R, as all of these techs probably have more time in sh–ter than you have with company. No job in the phone company is hard to do. You just have to adapt and learn the rules of the game being played. Also don’t be upset because they have more time than you, maybe if you’re lucky you’ll be in their shoes one day. Good luck brother
No after 20 years not going to a weak spined I&R tech to be hassled and intimidated by management. It’s the pathetic leadership that has ruined the company.
It’s not a good time at the phone company right now. People trying to intimidate, put down, etc.
Truth is , this is the process we have to work with. It hasn’t changed, it’s the same old routine when we are under a surplus. And to the probe FTs in repair that made it over from the Uverse world, the techs that will be bumping you have been around a long time and knows how to handle the changes the company throws at them. Trust me they have done it time and time again. Y’all act like they have never been anything but splicers.Anyway it is what it is and after it washes out things will go on same ol same ol.
It will be a issue, I know our construction guys around here are used to showing up, chilling out till about 8am, leaving the garage and head to work location, setup, take lunch. Do a few splices after lunch and pack up at 2pm. Those days are much different than that of I&R and Prem techs.
@107T6HWH-ihw - so you’re a tough guy huh? You sound ignorant.
Don’t really give a “F” they’ll have to adapt to me! Afraid of no manger no n the reality!
Be like Mobility, cut a PO and let the vendor do the work.
OP is trying to intimidate construction lol. Must be a junior mint.
Caution to junior repairmen. Construction can adjust to I&R ways of doing things. Been doing it since 1879☎️
I think they can adjust..When's the last time somebody properly ran an IW with the correct bridle rings and spacing? Station work quality has definitely declined over the years.
Used to thats how u learned...from the outside in... u hired on in the line crew and work and learned your way inside
whoaa scary stuff lol .who cares
I kinda figured that would be part of the job...... that’s telco work 101. Inside work will be a change....it is what it is.
- thanks for the heads up... .., it shouldn’t be an issue...
