Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

The Saul Show

Could we give Saul his own TV show and let him give us back our time?

What am I watching? This is the big "layoff" meeting?

Wow, great point. We get a survey every year where we detail our commute, do we bike/carpool/train/bus, if we telecommute, and then Wells goes out and brags about how they're good for the environment.

So much for that.

Can CPG accommodate the additional team members in existing space? Is Wells Fargo moving away from being a "Green" employer by bringing team members back into the office?

Life is better outside, everyone deserves to be treated better at work. Every place has its issues but WF seems to have more.

Not being able to work remotely anymore will significantly reduce the unpaid overtime hours that I will be able to put in for Wells Fargo project work. Having a 2 hour commute each business day means probably not working more than 8 hours per day on a business day anymore. When working remotely I can spend that no 2 hour per day commute time still working until later in the evening, and earlier in the morning. All gone, that extra unpaid overtime work, if there is no more telecommuting. It will make it more difficult to meet project target dates for sure. They can just extend the project target dates to accommodate an 8 hour work day, rather then a 9-12 hour work day.

In addition to all the additional commuting expenses and wasted commuting time, many large cities collect a tax on wages earned within city limits. So yes, it's a fairly large cut in pay for those of us who took the jobs primarily for the 100% telecommute arrangement.

So dumb...

I agree with all the others; this is just a way to get a bunch of people to quit. Hoping after everybody quits, they'll decide it's too expensive to have office space for everyone.

Thousands of people are 100% remote and are no where near Wells location. Most of those people were hired to telecommute. It is not a "privilege", it was a way for Wells to widen the pool of people to choose from and to save millions a year on real estate.

Many of them will lose their jobs or be forced to relocate across country.

Most of them work longer hours precisely because they don't have a commute. They don't leave the building for lunch, they don't worry about getting out of the building by 5:01 to beat traffic so they stay logged in until whatever their doing is complete.

They are usually salary and work more than 8 hours a day, but let's keep the math simple and use an 8 hour day as an example.

If you add a two hour commute to that day, you've added 25% more time to the job. Keep in mind these were telecommuting jobs from day one. Salaries were based on not commuting.

Is Saul going to give all the remote employees a 25% raise?

Nope.

Those people took salaries based on a 100% telecommute. Is Saul going to pay for their gas/dry cleaning/oil changes/bus passes/eating out now and then/etc etc? Parking?

Nope.

Many of the telecommuters will get better jobs somewhere else instead of taking what amounts to a pay cut, leaving family and friends, and putting their kids through changing schools, et., but it's funny how there are some people around here who delight in the misery of others.

What a thing to be happy about on a website dedicated to people losing their jobs.

If people took the job with the understanding that they would be working from home then suddenly telling them they have to commute to an office is changing the terms of their employment and totally unfair

It’s not what they signed up for.

What a joke that was.. and where did they find that CISO who was never interviewed in person by anyone.. only phone interviews.

how the heck can you hire a CISO of a major bank doing only phone interviews???

Tells you alot about what they think about the role.

To clarify my last point, it would be terrible to be in the dark regarding if you have a job or if you'll have to move far away, major sympathies given, it's unfair. But, if it's about having to commute 2 hours a day, no sympathies given.

Are some people honestly 100% remote? That's a great privilege and if that is taken away, welcome to the real world. Sorry that you'll have to commute 2 hours each day like the rest of us.

Real information is NEVER disseminated at large meetings. They are strictly for show, so that the leader can check a box.

Whatever message they were trying to convey today was undermined by the fact they didn’t come ready to address the central issue that most EIT employees care about-location strategy. If we don’t know where we will work, how far we have to drive, if we will have to move, if we will have a job, how our families will cope, then we can’t buy into your lofty goals. Unless we are secure with those fundamental questions about our day to day lives, then it doesn’t matter what they said in the meeting today.

Wells actually cares about their rating on glassdoor, this site not so much.

This site is only good if you are having layoffs, glassdoor is all day long all year long.

I'm going to complain about my.manager/boss ALL over the internet, including in this forum.

If you want to complain about you manager or the company culture, go to glassdoor, that's a website for actual job and company review, and it gets way more traffic than this one.

To the person who says not to post anything about reviews. If Saul can end a meeting with, a "Are you entertained yet" d–k move comment, I'd say anything and everything is up for grabs as far as commentary is concerned. Don't like it, move on bud.

Well the Saul call was pretty much as expected. Platitudes with very little substance in an office where everyone is already co-located. Plenty of Dog Whistles however about their disdain for WFH Team Members. Why they would want something as high anxiety as the "Location Strategy" to linger on and on and on for months is beyond any business sense I am accustomed to. All of the talk about "transparency" and the call ends with 7 minutes of softball questions "diversity & inclusion". Where is the beef?

So we waited to find out if we're all going to have to commute or if we're being relocated or if we're losing our jobs, and Saul ends this meeting with "Are you not entertained?"

Well, I learned nothing new, I was not entertained, but I probably could have been doing some real work for the last hour.

Please stop posting complaints about your review. That's between you and your manager.

This is place for a larger discussion about layoffs.

Your problems with your manager are your problems.

Layoffs are a problem for a lot of people, their families, and their community.

Unfortunately, this town hall didn’t include any details on location strategy. The overall sentiment was definitely negative for telecommuting. A lot of hot air. Saul said location strategy will be discussed in August at a global town hall.

Here's what I expect from you, I expect ER to respond to my documented complaint of manager theft and manager above them failing to act on this fraud that I filed with them over 6 months ago and they have ignored. 6 months and they still have not assigned an investigator, assuming I'll quit first I'm sure. Not happening, attorney is drafting a demand letter already.
