Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Voluntary separation?

No one is talking about voluntary separation, is there any chance for them to make the VSP offer to those who won't be getting an offer from IBM? Know some ATO folks who took it last year, I sure envy them now. Would like that more than being transferred to some "surplus pending area" within the company.

@snh, they did have a final list and if you weren't told by now you are staying. That may not be a mercy.

OP here, was asking about this case @sfn is talking about. Realize this is highly unlikely, but asking it anyways - if IBM doesn't take me, and I'm moved to another position, any chance they will be offering some decent way out some time before outsourcing our jobs once again?
Pretty sure finding a new job will take a while in any case, but with IBM at least one would know how much time he/she has, and in this other case the wait to be axed would be death by a thousand cuts. Not sure I could stand that for long

6:39 ET and still no email whether in or out of scope - If they didn't have the final list they shouldn't have made the announcement. Call was at 12 EST emails should have been sent at 12:30.

Such compassionate leadership we have.

if you weren't part of the IBM transfer, you'll end up under Arroyo until they figure out how to move your job to Latin America

HR explicitly said there is no severance option, you either take the job with IBM or you're unemployed

zero chance. Most likely, if you don't go to IBM, you will be let go.
