Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Endgame

Let me tell you how things will play out. IBM will not be nice to employees, will underpay, will make work-life balance horrible, will cut benefits, etc. So, we just lost some good paying normal jobs to IBM which is a slave shop. So, the talented people will not put up with this and will move on. They will go, over time, to companies that take care of them, pay them well, treat them well, respect them.

So, in the meantime, T will be stuck with IBM and a sh–ty army of H1Bs toiling for no money, the work will be c-appy, more stuff will be sent to third world countries and the results will be sh–ty as their quality standards are not as good as others. So, T will get a sh–ty service and customers will notice that and over time they will leave T for companies that have better products and services.

So, Randy may think he is saving money now, in the long term this is a dagger in the heart of the company. Sh– like this k–ls companies and we just committed an epic proportions 15k headcount seppuku.

IBM will fire all AT&T managers, they don’t want to infect the workforce with these lazy good for nothings.

@1pti My point exacetly - I have 12 months to find a solid job and I intend to do so. I think it works both for the worker and the outsourcer.

I also know that IBM will be working frantically to find my replacement, I know that the guy will be 50% of what they pay me now, but I am OK with that.

Time to jet.

And, yes, I saw it coming too.

@1ezl there are many groups @ IBM - the services side, which is Business Process and IT outsourcing is just plain horrible - they make money but not paying people well and by making them work unpaid overtime.

Some groups at IBM are better, GBS consulting is good, they treat people semi-nice, the pay is good, etc. But on the services side which will be our accounts it's just bad (my wife works there). Anyhow, I really hope I am wrong but I doubt it.

This play was coming and it was hinted at during many Townhalls. AT&T's core business is the Network. They are off loading functions that don't support the Core Business. If you read the press release you see that IBM is going to increase usage of AT&T Network Services. Look at the functions that are moving to IBM: DataCenter Operations, Application Support and Development, Planning, etc. Did any of the Core Network Functions move, NO.
And yes I am an impacted employee. I don't see myself lasting past 12 months with IBM, but I have 12 Months to look for another job.

I am not so sure about IBM being a slave shop?....Hard to find folks on a Friday, hard to get folks to take a call after 4:00PM (for off shore that is 11:00am).Thanks God for the US IBM folks to help carry the weight but unfortunately minimal are left after the last few layoffs and they lost some grat fols all of which were ex-AT&T.....Salary and the rest I agree with but IBM a slave shop? No, I have not seen that in any way, shape or form with IBM employees...….
