But what about all of the T folks that pivoted and got nanodegrees over the last couple years?

AT&T Tech/Dev/Ops itself did that just this year, only it was Mexico. I guess IBM is just more efficient at it.
IBM will take you for a year, maybe two, then you will transfer your knowledge to someone at Bangalore or Manila while training an on-site H1B visa holder to do your job. Once the H1B guy is up and running you will get laid off with a minimal severance. Big tech is a scam.
