Was asked by a friend's son if he should apply for a job here. Both of them were shock by everything I had to say - not one positive word about Verizon and a firm push to stay as far away from here as he possibly can.
Which had me wondering, when's the last time any of us had something good or positive to say about this place?
Been here 16. Still a fine place to work. Companywise, it's not quite as good as one of the other companies I worked for over the years and better than other companies. But the pay is very good for what you do. I can understand that IT folks are not happy here and probably could get paid more elsewhere. But we others have it pretty good, although the sacrifice has been career progression until recently with the VSP and layoffs which have opened up doors for some.
I took my VSP, no regrets. The leadership in Verizon now is shallow minded with a dreamy mind set. Not the type of attitude needed for success.
That is why its best to say nothing, do your thing, play the game, ignore the bias, politics and pettiness. Just smile, get paid and win. Dreams die first but you still have to feed the family.
Hello benefits. WATER YOUR GRASS. I can tell you that it isn’t “greener on the other side”. It’s way less pay and a quarter of the benefits.

It used to be a great place and a great living, but it has been transformed into an H1B and outsourced to the third-world, PC palace where we are sacrificing talent and technology leadership for pseudo social justice and diversity. It has been an amazing transformation down. Soon we will be back to reinventing Morse code. The only upside is that before long the spies will no longer have much worthwhile to repatriate.
I work with many on the wireline side that have close to or over 35 years . You can have your 15 and out. If I were you I would hate too.
I have been in IT for 15 years. Back then it was a great place to work. Work life balance, good leaders and interesting work. Then it all changed. This new crew came in. Horrible leadership, zero work life balance and poor culture. With the outsourcing lead by the same culprits it has got worse. And the new leaders are just yes people who want the Director and VP money. Now you have two type of people at the working level in IT, those left behind doing the work or two or three people and those who just do endless powerpoints for those same directors and VPs. If you like one of those two it’s a great place to be

Wrong bonehead. The work "I'll end up doing" is software engineering. Verizon is the lowest rung on the ladder for that.
Every place I interviewed at the interviewer told me they hated Verizon.

Wireline will be around for along tine,it may have alot less emplyees but it will still be here,you can use it as a stepping stone until you find something better..

Agreed. I tell everyone who asks stay away. There was a time it was very lucrative. We made good money over the years as it has become less and less unionized there has been an erosion of conditions. We will get out doing g rather well but I fear for those following us. I would never want my young adult children to work at such a place as this. To any ambitious young person particularly males stay far away for your own good.
