The number of layoffs this week alone are all the proof you need of what is looming. Massive subscriber losses and piss poor mergers and acquisitions are taking their toll. Bankruptcy is coming and will be Randy's legacy.

"AT&T keeps posting huge losses and can barely fiance there debt as it is this is probably the final straw with these layoffs and the news even says dish network is about to buy AT&T because AT&T is loosing so much money!!! The only chance we have left is to stick together with the union"
Among the dumbest and most factually incorrect posts I have seen here. And that's saying something.
The south east lost over 800 techs, over 80 in MS. It’s not over they need to now reduce managers. Sleep well Randall.
I'm a 19 year FT in CE. I just quietly used them in as much as they have used me. They paid for all of my Cisco certifications and over the past 4 years I've gone from working part time at non profits for free to freelancing on the side for profit. I've never spoken a word of this to my narrow minded co-workers. It's all negativity from most Telco workers. Yoda said it best , ' Your focus is your destiny '.
As mentioned, T’s profits keep rising, stock price has steadied and Wall St. analysts are giving T the overall thumbs up (analysts don’t dare do that if the sky is about to fall) and dividends go up yearly. Sixty percent of profits go to dividends, as a rule, and the rest to pay down debt....let’s see what it looks like a years end.
Can"t run from a cell. Wage slaves with no external validations, most can't leave as they have no real world skills that will get them even moderately close to their current rate of pay.
I don't run away from anything. Maybe you need a puppy huh?
The company is nowhere near bankruptcy. Company is making mad money and is quickly paying down debt on top of raising the dividend every year. Don’t let the company fool you. It just gave Randy another raise. It just got a permanent tax cut from Trump. The company is fine. It’s the workers that are being squeezed.
Maybe all that "creative accounting" is catching up, and they know it. One thing is for sure, after years of horrible customer service, the customers are finally sick of it and turning away.
@Zzdluu0-nio "AT&T keeps posting huge losses and can barely fiance there debt as it is"
AT&T is making record profits. The first quarter profits this year were $24 Billion. They also are already paying down the debt:
"the company expects to have paid off about 75% of the debt it took on to acquire Time Warner by the end of the year. "
As far as the economic health of AT&T is concerned, the canary in the coal mine will be a cut in the dividend. So long as that doesn't happen, areas other than landline will do fine. Blackstone and Vanguard took positions in AT&T this spring. I believe both of those investors are chasing income.
I'll leave the carcass to the hyenas. Could see this abortion evolving 10 years ago and prepared accordingly.
@oar...it's hard to assess the surplus numbers on this site? 911 in SE. 120 in MW. 600+ in SW....it's posted all over this site
No, something is definitely up.
I think the unluckiest of all is the person still here when it all comes down.
In a lot of cases, the person who gets their severance, pension and unemployment should be thanking their lucky stars that they are out.
It ain't going to get any better from here.
There is something much better not too far off or we would not be seeing these kind of cuts. No time since the telephone was invented have we seen these kind of cuts.
Something up.
The company still posts a pretty hefty profit. Granted, it is over $1B less each quarter than ATT and TimeWarner earned separately before the merge, but it is still a profit.
Reading the posts on this site it is difficult to asses how big the layoff was. I can see where it hit in many places, but like all previous events it is impossible to determine the number. Knowing these were all craft jobs does the union have an obligation to share the numbers with their members?
You would think after bleeding cell phone customers for years eventually at&t would fire randy!!!
AT&T keeps posting huge losses and can barely fiance there debt as it is this is probably the final straw with these layoffs and the news even says dish network is about to buy AT&T because AT&T is loosing so much money!!! The only chance we have left is to stick together with the union.
Att Bankruptcy?
Makes no sense
