@5jac, why would one sell to the "lowest bidder"?

You know nothing.

Within 3 to 5 years, FIOS will be sold (with the union) to the lowest bidder. And the VZ will compete against FIOS with 5G. I believe within this same time frame parts or all of Wireline will also be sold. Hans betting everything on 5G

FIOS is dead. The company is so focused on 5G that they will let that revenue slip away. Same as they did years ago when the company decided to convince the SCC/PUC's they had competition. What did they do? Stop the network build out, stop the deployment of DSL to areas the were begging for it. Stop using sales people, gave the landline business away to competitors. Walked away from billions of profit over the last 20 or so years.

Now it is the time for FIOS to suffer the same fate. It will be abandoned in place or facilities sold. Verizon once again paints themselves into the corner.

When the IPTV project got axed, the writing was on the wall for FiOS. Most of the infrastructure is still built around GPON and HFC/QAM for video and STBs. Folks are cord cutting now and soon video customers will be scarce. From a financial standpoint it makes no sense to spend 100s or 1000s of dollars to install/maintain a FiOS sub, when you can just Fedex them a 5G cantenna/modem and call it a day.
