Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle is the new - failing - IBM

The parallels to IBM’s road to demise with bad product decisions, arrogance, and total detachment from the market place/ customers, plus all the unnatural financial contortions are unmistakable. Discuss

In the Support org, the open open floor plan is not only loud and distracting

This is the "new normal" at most places of tech employment, especially if you're a code monkeyt. It makes the age of cubicles seem like the good old days.

I feel for you @Zajj92R-1dqm , my problem is I sit next to a code grinder banging on his keyboard all day and slurping on his melting ice in his cup. I would rather take a bullet to face then work there but I do it for my kids. I think I will do a 401k early withdraw and go work in a package sweat shop instead. I hate programming so much. I am done with it.

In the Support org, the open open floor plan is not only loud and distracting, it’s totally emasculating to us real workers as the brain-dead management sits in their nice offices with doors.

That was Sarwal's decision. I've been to the Utah, Colorado, and Florida offices and those "cubes" are terrible. You hear everything.

Imagine sitting next to a bunch of millennials and hearing their id--tic talk all day long(I'm a millenial +1, so not really one of them).

@utw then to drive home their utter contempt (if dragging people back to the office didn't do it), they tore out the cubicles and installed open plan workstations so everyone sees everybody else and hears everyone's conversations.

IBM fired people who didn't live in range of the offices though. Oracle didn't. So there's that.

My prediction is that India Business Machines will merge or buy Oracle. Then they will layoff all the non-Indian employees.

IBM, like Oracle, also did a force-attrition move by making long time work from home employees go back to the office. Definitely an attempt to get people to quit or retire so that severance could be reduced for impending layoffs.
