Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

As odd as it sounds, I heard today that AT&T is looking for a new operations center. Something about their 280 building needing extensive repairs, so they are considering buying the Regions Operations Center on Lakeshore. I shrugged it off. Everything I hear says AT&T is downsizing in the area, not trying to stay status quo or grow. Time will tell, but my money would be on that one being a "Tall Tale".

Well i can tell you that they have been renovating the Hoover Data center for the better part of a year, they must have spent millions on it. Also they have already been through rounds of surpluses and have lost people and good managers and most seem to think that at least on the uverse side that they are operating now at the least amount of people they can. The techs were on 6 days a week but have just got some relief as 10 loaners from North Carolina have just come in. i've been hearing rumors of DTV being sold to dish network and that uverse will come to an end by the 4th quarter, leaving only internet installs and the new streaming box they want to push out. Time will tell.

@men: not just any building but the Alabama Operations Center (AOC). That will leave zero corporate support properties in Birmingham proper and leave one in Hoover (Data Center). Employees at AOC are hearing they’ll be relocated to the Data Center but AT&T has little interest in moving them all. There will be a surplus amongst all craft at that location and management functions will be consolidated in to other locations or eliminated all together. This will happen by 4Q2020.

I DO know that the SE is supposed to get hit really hard this next surplus. Not sure if Birmingham Alabama is included, but probably. I heard a while back that the company sold another one of their buildings, and that will leave only one building left in Birmingham.
