@2jgu....don't forget the Doo Little Crew (DLC) has to keep that battery grease smeared on those terminals too! :)

You’ll find a DEG/DLC DT sitting under an umbrella testing batteries and routining cabinets for the most part. SSIM DT’s do special circuit installs and maintenance and have to keep moving so if they’re sitting under an umbrella testing pairs at a xbox/rt they won’t be there too long.

Pretty good info. I’ve been an OPT on the line crew for 15 years for Bellsouth/SE and I had no idea what DLC techs do.

Thanks to both the last posters. Very informative. I’m a systems tech. So far I’ve only done my PBX installs and repair. Do they have you DTs doing Avaya Ip office installs yet?

@1ykf...u r correct we are TFS Business Setvices, in my post below I loosely translated my description as TFS I&M just to differentiate between the DT's that are in C&E since the slang for the 2 outside departments has always been Construction and I&M. Even though our organizations change their names, folks can always relate to Construction and I&M versus whatever the new organizational names of the week are.....u had good additional detailed job descriptions too! Lots of stuff happening for SSIM & System Techs these days!

The “A DT is a DT is a DT” was eliminatedin the 2015 agreement when SSI&M DT’s were moved to the “ CPE-Business Field Services” family of skills with ABFS Systems Technicians. Specials DT’s are NOT in TFS-IM, they are in TFS-Business Services (recently renamed to Field Operations - Business). Some of you should really use Webphone once in a while. Internally within a Business Services, SSI&M has been renamed as “Transport” and ABFS is now called “CPE/Managed Services”. While both titles (Digital Tech and Systems Tech) in the Southeast within Business Services are still performing separate work functions, in many areas the DT’s are performing a fair amount of CPE/Managed Services work (IPFlex, ADI, AVPN router installs and project work like AAP) and their are opportunities for Systems Technicians to help out in the Specials load working ASE (AT&T Switched Ethernet) orders and single dispatch router installs as long as they are trained/equipped properly. The capability for cross dispatching of work in GCAS for both functions has been in place and is currently being utilized since the middle of 2018. SSI&M DT’s still perform nearly all 911 PSAP and Host location (this is contractual) work and I&M of designed DS0 (analog and digital), DS1, DS3, SONET, OCn, Carrier Ethernet (switched and dedicated) and Business venue broadcast and IP video Systems. Also, as of March 2018, SSI&M in the Southeast took on all non-designed Business U-Verse BVoIP 3-6 Line I&M.

DEG Digital Techs are basically an extension of the CO. They install and maintain RT equipment for pots, SLC, DSL, and Special Services(muxes, dslams, vrads, SLC systems). DEG DT's are part of the C&E organization and the FT, OPT, & Service Tech family of skills, all of whom they can bump & SIPP for. They can SIPP for a SSIM DT & a Systems Tech but not bump.

Special Services I&M Digital Techs install and maintain all kinds of special circuits over copper and fiber. Dry pairs, DS0, BRI, PRI,T1, DS3, dry fiber, ASE, Video, etc. They are under the TFS I&M organization and the family of skills with Systems Techs, whom they can bump & SIPP for. The SSIM DT & Systems Tech can SIPP for a DEG DT but not bump.
