Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

T already destroying HBO

In the news today, At&t is reportedly holding internal talks about selling HBO Europe. Now we stateside may not think we care about that small unit, but that little 200 employee unit has been cranking out original hits in original languages there and have received their version of awards and accolades there. HBO there is competing well against Netflix and former CEO Richard Pleipler had planned on bringing some of those originals stateside as they are quality material. It’s judt starting to really GROW. So what does At&t do? Make plans to dump it for immediate cash profit instead of seeing it as part of a bigger picture down the road. Randall Stephenson is just a bean counter. He has no vision. No imagination. He’s destroyed Directv, now he’s destroying Time Warner as all the talent is flocking to competitors. Someone explain to me how someone who has cost the company billions in failed bid for T-mobile, billions in stock devaluation , and billions in overspending on mergers not only keeps his job but gets million dollar bonuses ? This company has really gone to c-ap. No one really wants to work here anymore. It’s just a paycheck until a better opportunity opens up.

Stinky denies all reports. Let's wait and see if this becomes a lie within the next few months.

Dude, you just gave me a list of "American_television_shows." Of course, Americans watch American show. I said give me some non-UK Euro shows. That would be shows made for Europe, shown in Europe. Proved my point again.

"Educate yourself, look up Doc Martin, Are You Being Served, As Time Goes By, 800 Words or The Brokenwood Mysteries just for starters."

Yo, those shows you mentioned are all UK & AU. I said name same non-UK Euro shows. You didn't. You proved my point. Doubly so, since you can't read.

I love restoring communications to the community after a disaster.

I love upgrading/improving our network for customers and internal usage when the finding is there.

I love my paycheck, healthcare, and free/discounted services.

I’m sorry you aren’t in a rewarding job where you see how your hard work directly affects people’s lives. It’s time for a career change.

"Americans don't watch European shows, especially if they have subtitles." This is just not true, I know several families that watch shows from England, New Zealand and France, and just so you know you can find them with sub-titles, but you can also find them without sub-titles. There are many very good comedies from Europe as well as police shows. There are several shows from New Zealand that include comedies and police shows. Educate yourself, look up Doc Martin, Are You Being Served, As Time Goes By, 800 Words or The Brokenwood Mysteries just for starters.

You are correct: Randall Stephenson is a bean counter.

I hated working there and I questioned many operational decisions made, but I respect Randall a lot. He and his brother are TELCO "lifers."

Brother is/was an FT and Randall started at SBC before college graduation as an intern in the finance department.

P¡ss on him all you want, but give respect when due. That's commitment to a company.
